Did somebody try wakesurf behind the x-star 2013?

I did - when I demoed the X-star.

With the 'stock' ballast (1400ish under the floor plus plug & play bags) - it was atrocious for surfing. I could barely throw the rope. I'm not a great wakesurfer, but I know a good wave vs a crappy one.. and the Star was a crappy one. I'd say for surfing, no better than my LSV stock (which isn't saying much).

and though you're not asking... Conversely - the G23 completely stock (2850ish under the floor) threw a great surf wave with no tweaking.. I suspect a more serious surfer would throw in some bags to adjust the wave to their liking, but with nothing but stock (not even moving passengers around) ballast and pushing the 'surf' preset - it was one of the better surf wakes I've ridden.

We wakeboard far more than surf.. but the ability to surf by just pressing a button and not messing with bags really made it attractive to us.

FWIW - I demoed the X-star, came home and emailed the Nautique dealer for G23 pricing. It was a nice boat, but for us it wasn't close.

Yes. Big Gator demoed the new 2013 xstar. I didn't see it, but he was really not impressed with the surf wake.

Yea.. as Schmo said - it was the 2013. It was about 6-7 weeks ago - I demoed the G and the Xstar about 2 weeks apart.

Garri,
I'd still demo one if you can... it could be that it just needs to be set up particularly for surfing. It may be great with a bunch of extra bags, it's just not great stock.

What happened to that XStar when you demoed it?? It worked great for us. Loaded and stock. When it was stock the issue that I had was that it was so tall. It leveled out after a quick fix of the trim tab. It wasn't the perfect wake but I definitely thought it was a dang good one. I also demoed the G23 a few days before so that I could compare the two.

Not sure, honestly. I demoed the G - there were a 4 adults in the boat, and nobody moved around for surfing.. just pushed 'surf left' and went. On the X-star, just me and the driver.. pushed 'surf left' and 'bleh'. The surf wake was pretty bad.

Again - maybe it wasn't 'set up' right.. but for a totally stock (and expensive, high-end) boat - pushing 'surf left' should give you a good result regardless. I would think that the flagship boats wouldn't NEED massive tweaking (the G didn't).

Like I said.. demo one - maybe I just got a bad demo..

I was just surprised to hear that kinda feedback I guess. I agree the G23 was very easy and the wake was nice but the Star wasn't a disaster either. It worked well. I agree for the size, weight, ballast, and hype of these boats they should surf very well almost automatically.

X-30 is the best MC boat for wakesurfing, wave is very well shaped.
