This is a tragic and sad day for recreational boating on the Great Lakes.

Today, it was announced that Asian Carp (you know, the kind that jump out of the water and can knock you out or knock your teeth out) have now passed the electric barrier on the Illinois Sanitary and Ship Canal. They are now on their way to the Great Lakes.

Check out the article which mentions that, in waters infested with Asian Carp, hockey helmets are standard safety gear for boaters...

What a colossal screw up. This dreaded day has been years in the making. Everyone saw it coming and the Government did not respond adequately. How could they run the electric fence at "low power?" Inexcusable. They should look at poisoning the entire canal between the locks and the electric fence before they swim the final 8 miles to Lake Michigan.

To see why you'll need a hockey helmet, click on the link below and go to 1:50...

Inexcusable to say the least. Not exactly what the marine industry needs in the midwest thats for sure.

Makes me think of an awesome recipe for carp an old and wise man once told me.

1 pound of butter to a 12" iron skillet.
2 TBS of garlic powder
2 tsp of salt
1 whole onion diced
1 sprig of rosemary finely chopped
1 scoop of dirt from your garden
1 whole Carp

Saute at medium-high until fish is well done.....

Remove the fish and eat the dirt....it will taste better!!!!!!!!!

We have had the carp in the Ohio river for a while now. They seem to only jump when you are idleing or cruising real slow in shallow water.

Aerial Bowhunting Asian Carp. Great video. If they get as bad as this video, you've got to wonder what's ahead for our sport when the waters get really infested.

If these make it the final 8 miles to Lake Michigan, the Govt. really, really screwed up. They should be poisoning the canal THIS WEEKEND and they should crank the electric fence to full power and build a redundant fence. DUH. Keeping the fence on low power for a few commercial vessels is idiocy.
