Check out this little wake video I threw together of some recent riding.

BTW, if you are a vimeo member and log in you can download a 1280x720 resolution version of the video that has less compression.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I used Final Cut for the editing and did the finish and effects on Avid DS. Oh, and the camera is a Sony PMW-EX1.

I have only had the EX1 for a few months and I love it! However if I were still in the market for a camera I would go with the EX3.

The whole tapeless workflow can be a pain at first but I think I have a grasp on it. Now I just need to figure out how I am gonna archive 70ish gigs worth of media!!

How much does an HD Video camera cost?

thats easily one of the best short videos I've seen online. great song, awesome editing, I like the end with the picture frame, I liked the sequence, one thing though is it'd be cool if you timed the sequence shots to the gun shots, but I liked the tuber/jetskier gun shots as well. nice vid.

Impressive.. Love the editing, videography, special effects, AND ESPECIALLY the gunshots during the jet ski invaders..

Very talented work.. you really thought through planning all the shots in that..

Nice work as everyone has said, however it was a little jumpy for me. Great effort though! Only a month of ownership in, I'm sure good things are to come. Keep it up.

Depends on what you get Matt. Mine (canon HG10), cost 750 with some accessories off of ebay. Don't know about others. If you're filming wakeboarding though, you want one where you can turn off the autofocus... Wish I had realized that before. Makes tube shots a pain in the arse.

That was a great video along with the editing. Wish I had the time to do that. :-)

Nick - Do you have any videos you can post up? i found your camera for $589 and it comes with:

Canon HG10, 40 GB Hard Disk Drive Camcorder With USA Warranty
2 Hour Lithium Battery For Canon HG10
UV Filter Multi Coated For Canon HG10
1GB Mini SecureDigital (miniSD) Memory Card
Full Size Deluxe Camera Bag
Full Size Tripod
Deluxe Lens Care & Maintenance Package
LCD Screen Protectors

Is that a good deal? They actually have just the camera for $389.

Sorry for thread hijack.
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-08-2008, 8:00 PM Reply
Gar. Well then, I guess had I waited 5 months to get my camera, I would have gotten it cheaper... Blah.

That 2 hour battery that it comes with is insane on life. Or maybe I just have an uber batter, because unless I use the screen, I can film all day long and only run down half of the battery.

And yeah, videos.

Here's my youtube with some crappy video quality.

And my Vimeo that's being added to regularly now.

*End Hijack on my part...*

Did you go to school to learn how to edit like that?

I have been playing with Pinnacle Studio 12 and use a Sony HDR-SR10 but I would never come close to the quality of your vids.

Do you use a tripod in the boat?
Old     (jealous_soul)      Join Date: Sep 2007       08-10-2008, 6:22 PM Reply
John: Be careful. That combo sounds like one from a non legit dealer....they sell you a bunch of accessories you don't need, and you end up paying full price anyway after all is said and done, otherwise they don't ship the camera. The canon HG10 is great though, I have one as well and I'm very pleased with it.
Old     (richd)      Join Date: Oct 2003       08-10-2008, 6:36 PM Reply
Very nice. I picked up an EX1 about 6 weeks ago and haven't had a chance to shoot any wakeboarding with it yet but based on the footage I have shot and your piece I can see it will not disappoint.

The Sony EX1 features 3 chip - 1/2" inch CMOS imagers coupled to a full manual Fujinon lens. It records full raster 1980X1020 to a special XDCam codec tweaked by the CinaAlta guys (made the cams for Star Wars) and the IQ is just breathtaking.

It offers both over and undercranking modes as well as time lapse/slow shutter, features I can see Mike put to good use.
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-10-2008, 7:07 PM Reply
I got mine from a "non legit" dealer on Ebay, got a bunch of extra stuff, and still paid around 450 dollars less than what best buy and the rest of the major electronics stores were asking for at the time.

If I can afford it, next year I'm going to pick up another HD cam, so that I can film from two different angles at the same time, so I may look into this EX1, since it's video quality is damn near perfect.
Old     (jeffcanary62)      Join Date: Apr 2003       08-10-2008, 7:51 PM Reply
^^Nick you mean so I can film for You.^^

These cameras makes my first cannon camera look like a McDonald toy.
Old     (pickle311)      Join Date: Oct 2005       08-10-2008, 7:58 PM Reply
I got a Canon HG10 not long after it was released. I love the camera but I'm scared to bring it out on the boat.
And if you are looking to buy one, go to butterflyphoto dot com, they have great prices and the best customer service I've ever seen. I have bought 3 cameras from them and they are a legit Canon dealer.

The only thing that bugged me about this video was the fact that parts of tricks were skipped over, which, while awesome that it syncs up with the music, I like seeing the ENTIRE trick, but that's just me and I'm slightly insane.

How's Final Cut? Right now I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of After Effects and using it in tandem with Sony Vegas is not the most efficient/nor effective way of doing things, but I'm curious if you've ever worked with either of those programs.
Old     (jaybee)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-11-2008, 12:25 PM Reply
Yeah i was kinda curious about final cut but it looks pretty major. i have a background in music and music editing so would that make it any easier?
Old     (mikel_j)      Join Date: Aug 2008       08-11-2008, 1:39 PM Reply
Final Cut is definitely the way to go for editing. It is very powerful and is easy to learn. Although I didn't use after effects for anything it is a great program that compliments Final Cut (or any other editing software) very well. There is nothing I did in this video that couldn't be done in After Effects.

So awesome.

I'm not sure I can tolerate any new full-length big budget wake videos that aren't filmed & released in HD. It is time.

Amazing video.
