Swim platform start

How often do you take off from your swim plat form on a wakeboard when the boat is accelerating and slide down the rope to the handle? Is there a name for this?

I know this is old school i just wondered if people do this anymore?

i think it's lame. you waste a lot of energy letting yourself out to the end of the rope.

the only nice thing about it is just getting a set dry, something about staying dry for the first set is kinda fun i dont know why. But i think its called a number of things but we always call it a teak start

Wouldn't catch me doing that, one slip and that handle is comin for you fast.

I have got some pretty bad rope burns doing this. I would not recomend it. burns it the wet suit too.

What is with pros putting on their boards on the sundeck and then jumping directly to the water for a deep-water start? I have seen several videos of this lately.

If a buddy did that on my boat, I might punch in the face or at least give him a, "com'on dude". Fins + Upulstery = $$$

I've seen pros do that too, but it was because they had removed the platform. I don't know if that's why all of them do it; just saying I've only seen it done in those cases. With the weight some of the pros run, the platform messes up the wake in some boats and can cause cosmetic damage from the pressure of the platform against the hull when underway.

"I might punch in the face", I support the punch in the face idea. As an alternative you could wait till they had one foot in the gun it so they fall off the back like a gimp but they might chip the gel on the way so the face punch might be best.

I've put my board on standing on the sun pad a few times (just built a new one so the vinyl is fresh and no rips/cuts) and jumped off. No fins on the Watson though, the little moulded ones don't seem to do any damage not even a mark yet. I prefer people use the swim deck though so I should probably set a better example.

but why do you use the sun deck? you say you have a swim platform. is it to get an extra rad adrenaline hit from the high boat to water leap you can make..........or are you imitating pro's.

This is old school stuff. I have been doing boat/dock/land starts for well over 15 years. Never did the Teak start as I don't like rope-burn, but I have thought about it 100's of times. We've been doing the teak start/finish on the Wakesurfer's for 2 summers now.

You'd punch your buddy in the face if he attempted a boat start like this??? Whatever, Throw some towels down and have a go at it. For anyone that thinks there is harm in certain starts, or something is lame, you probably haven't tried it yourself! Hell I attempted a start off of a tube last summer, just to see if I could do it(it worked). Nothing fancy but it's fun to play. I'd like to try starting off the top of another boats tower, again just to say I did it.

You can start off of anything if you have the skillz.

One of my buddies climbed up on top of a boathouse to do a start but couldn't deliver. we called him a PU$$

i did a dock start on the roof of an abandoned dock someone drug up to the bank...have cellphone video if someone can tell me how to get it on here lol

Watch out for ropes......

Those cold days always have me thinking about this, but i really would be pissed if i got hurt trying to do something simple like that, which really makes no sense.

This is a great trick for wakesurfing if you have a thicker rope. Wakeboarding, not so much.

Hahn, I was just eating some cereal and scrolling through some posts and bam. I have never scrolled up so quick in my life. The last bit of cereal wasn't as good as the first.

Even two years after the fact, I can envision in slow motion this girl on my boat (albeit trying to be helpful) being handed a board from someone just finishing his set and her throwing the board down on the sundeck as I watch in horror as I see the sharp fin of a 2005 Parks board dig deep into my sundeck. Still makes me cry to this day.

What do you use to fix an upholstery hole once its torn though?
