The weather was really nice three weeks ago when I didn’t have access to my boat. Since I got my boat back it’s been nothing but miserable. Today was “Dock In Day” at the boat club. The rain and wind held off long enough for us to get the docks in today.

I had planned to do my spring boat cleaning today then try the recycled surfboard that I made last fall from surf board shipping boxes and Kroger’s shopping bags. The rain and wind kicked up so I hitched the boat up and drove it to a covered car wash and at least got my spring cleaning done.

I thought that I could at least see if “Recycle This!!” floats. I modeled “Recycle This!!” from a Walker F18. An F18 is a little small for me so I stretched the basic deign 8 inches.

I took Recycle This!! down to the docks after my spring cleaning was done. I was please to see that it actually floats!!

The commercial board that I’ve see are incredibly light and are very buoyant. So buoyant that when stood on end in the water only 2 or three inches of board submerge before the displaced water supports the weight of the board. I did the same test with Recycle This!! It takes well over a foot of board to achieve buoyancy!!

I might get a chance to ride this Thursday, but will definitely ride this weekend at the Norris Lake Ice Breaker.

That's the board before the float test

That's as close as I've been to surfing since late October.

The water was pretty cold - no doubt the sculling crews were glad I wasn't sending rollers over their shells. I frequently hear chilled shrieks in the spring when we pass them
