Making a trip to New Braunfels this weekend. We rented a house on Lake Dunlap and are gonna take our new MXZ out. Any locals on here that have any tips on the lake. Places to avoid etc. since there's only one boat ramp and our place is on the other side of the lake from the house I was wondering if it would be safe to just keep the truck and trailer at the ramp for the weekend? Thanks for any tips..

I wouldn't leave the truck and trailer if you could help it. The ramp is under I-35 and that can be a hangout for some people that you might not want to be around your stuff overnight.

They recently marked low areas and stumps with buoys so use your best judgement and you should be okay. When you get near the downstream dam, it's important to only stay on the side of the lake that has houses/boat docks, avoid the other side.

Wakesurfing isn't allowed per the game wardens, but that hasn't stopped everyone, nor have I seen someone get pulled over for surfing, but it can happen so keep that in mind. Plus, it's a shallow narrow lake so surfing it can get you some dirty looks from other boats.

2/3 down on the above link is a google maps view (Interactive Lake Maps) of the river with areas to avoid. I personally would not keep my truck and trailer at the boat ramp all weekend (that ramp sucks and if you are just launching once in the beginning of the weekend and loading at the end of the weekend you could use my subdivision's private boat ramp but you can't store the trailer there as the HOA are nazis about that stuff). I would be happy to take a lap with you and point out areas to avoid if you want.
