I've been going to the lower colorado river outside of Yuma (Fishers / Martinez / Hidden Shores / Senators) for the last 25+ years. Since I've grown up and bought my own boat, I typically do a big trip once a year out there with a few other boats and a bunch of friends.

That area of the river is getting to be unrideable anymore with the water levels being so low and the constantly moving sand bars... especially for wakesurfing, which is pretty much all I'm doing these days. It's great for hanging out and floating, and occasional rides during the day, but I'd like to get some good quality riding in this year.

Sooo... I'd like to mix it up and try something different.

I prefer houses with a boat dock on the water, but am not opposed to doing the houseboat thing. Roughly 12-14 people, and 2 boats. Warm water is a requirement.

What do you guys think?

Hey bro, I grew up in sd and know what your talking about. I currently live in murrieta and I agree the river is getting to crazy and you really can't ride. I personally love Lake Powell house boat trip. alot of time to wakeboard, wakesurf, sight see, clif up, fish you name it. it's a blast! just make sure you go up the lake a while like up last chance bay or up rock creek and you will get great water.
You can always do the house or house boat thing up in Taheo or shasta, long drive though.
Havasue on a non week end is ok.
Or you can always check out in Palm springs area there are some private homes on lakes that you can rent out. hope these ideas help

Look at Parker. You can rent homes on the river from VRBO for between $250-600 per night with docks for a couple boats and room for 10-15 people.. I think there is more water there - certainly hear reports of enough people boarding up there and I think that's where they had the Wakesurf World Championship 1-2 yrs ago.

Powell is great, but houseboats are insanely expensive there nowadays.
