Can anyone give any insight as to what the differences are between the 03 vs. 04 CWB Absolute (Platinum)? Besides Graphics... I've seen the 04 and it looks sweet!!!

I heard there were some other changes. How does it ride now compared to the 03? What size fins are you using?

Thanks for your feedback

the 04 is a 3 stage vs the continuous and the rocker is much heavier. both are great boards.

My 03 is a 3-stage.... are you thinking the other way around?

04 has shorted molded fins for better release/more pop angled molded fins 6 degrees for better edgeing, and cupped the outer rail so the board feels faster, also changed the top shape a litle for lighter swing weight. The 03 version is now called the Freedom (134) and Flame (140) and the 02 version is the Pure. Pretty much the 02 is the slowest, adn they have gotten faster with more pop each year, althoguh I still can't get as high on the absolute as my 04 Prodigy...

Roy, wow, thank you for all the info! I'm glad they are keeping the old design (Freedom) for those who like it better.

Stephanie, this is what I got off CWB's site:

1. Shortened Molded Fins for more pop.
2. Same Fins angled at 6 degrees towards the edge of the board for a more nose high ride and better cutting.
3. Outer Rail cupped to release water easier, and to keep the tail down more in the cut.
4. Larger center spline to break water for softer landings.
5. Top Deck lightened for better swing weight.
(Cant really tell by their site if the Absolute has the fiberglass rods like the Prodigy does?)

The Absolute Platinum comes with 2 sets of aluminum fins (.75" & 1.30") The standard foam version comes with 1.30" fins (not sure if their aluminum or glass?)

I wanna demo both of these boards, from what I understand the Prodigy is much faster than the Absolute.

I couldn't imagine it being any better than the 2003. I love that board. Guess I'll have to try it.

All Platinum models have the fiberglass rods.

Retail on the platinum is $570 and the reg is $455. The Prodigy was slower than the 03 Absolute (at least to me) but technically the absolute is supposed to be slower. Both boards are amazing, I only got to try the 04 abs once so I will have to wait till my own comes in before i will make any final judgements on it, but initially i really liked it. ANother great CWB board for 04 is the Tattoo, it is based on the old prodigy shape, but with a removable center fin (since most cut the fins off theirs anyway).

I am trying to set up a group buy over on malibuboatowners.com if anyone wants to check it out, i posted under the watersports and related gear section and no one is showing interest so I haven't really pursued it much further, but if some interest is shown i can see what i can work out...

Yo,

I would be interested in a 04 Platinum Absolute if the price is right. But, it would have to be an incredible savings for me to take the business away from my local shop though. They are good to me.

I just got the new one, had the 03. It's a bit faster, and rides a bit tighter finless. It was hard to beat the 03, but they did.
