To make a long story short. I called my dealer and told them I wanted to change my prop from the stock 14x18 to something better. I had heard the the Acme 1235 was the way to go, so I told my dealer what I wanted and they told me that the 14.5x14.25 Acme 1235 wouldn't work and I quote, "Your boat will never get on plane, it will just keep pushing water". I thought that was odd, so I called Acme and they told me that it would work so I ordered one from them and WOW! I get up on plane quicker with 3,000 lbs loaded with the new prop, then with no weight and the old prop. My RPM's went up about 4-5 hundred and my speed went down about 3-4 mph, but well worth it. I only run about 1500 lbs of ballast in my 05 VLX. Trying to decide if i want the 1235 or 857 (i think thats the one). Any idea which would be best???

If you run 1500 lbs total I'd get the 537. The 857 is the wrong prop for that boat. The 1235 is overkill for that much weight, I wouldn't get it unless you're using at least 2k pounds.

I have run the 537 and the 1235 on our 07 VLX. The 1235 outperforms in almost every way. Handling in tight turns is much better Hole shot is much better, Fuel economy is better. Top speed is the only place where you lose, and then only about 3mph or so. The 537 is more than an adequate prop, but the 1235 is superb on that hull. We're running the 340 Monsoon. We typically run stock ballast, wedge, 500 lbs hard ballast and 4-5 people.

Sometimes dealers really give bad info. Not sure about your boat, but from what you said, the dealer was way off. I am getting ready to order a 1235 for my 05 VLX. Just about everything I have heard confirms it is the way to go. We run a LOT of weight, and usually a good amount of bodies too. Can't wait. Going to have my stock prop repaired and kept as a spare. Glad to hear you are happy with your new one too.

I bought direct from acme because if I didn't like the prop they would switch if for free. I would recommend the 1235 for any weight because you never know when your going to add weight

Running the 537. The prop is night and day difference from the old. But, if you think you'll ever add any weight, go ahead and get the 1235. 1500 lbs plus a full crew and you'll be right in line for that prop.

I just switched to a 1235 and have to agree it is an awesome prop. No more problems planing with ballast and it holds speed while surfing. I can use the perfect pass now at surfing speeds without bogging down in the turns.

I did have to raise my trailer bunks though to clear the prop guard. I purchased mine from the local prop shop as he made a smoking deal, since it had been sitting on his shelf for over a year.
We did lose a few miles an hour...
