You know I love Vandall, Byerly, Benny G, Lyman, Shane and Parks but what about Darin? How come nobody ever talks about him? He's the reason I fell in love with wakeboarding to begin with. He goes huge, he's tech, if you are into contests than he kicked butt there too. I even hear he's a kick ass guy. Just wanted to throw out so love for the Scud!! What do you guys and gals think?

He's unreal!

TS with you on that, I've been a Darin fan since 93, and your right he is a super nice guy.

i heard a story that when they were filming "updog" the scud did a huge front roll and landed too far onto his toes but instead of falling he tucked and rolled again on the water and stood up out of the trick! He's also inventing a new trick called the spicy tuna roll...its a cab 5 over the rope! he can already do it regular

Orbital...?
Old     (electricsnow)      Join Date: May 2002       07-30-2008, 3:13 AM Reply
but this is wakeboarding, so if you do it switch, you can also re-name it. :-) haha...

The orbital 5 is off axis. The flatline 5 is cab and on axis. Why doesn't any one else try that stuff? I heard he is also busting something new out. Shapiro is getting back into the scene I am told.
I have always liked his intensity. That man deserves props!

Shapiro is an absolute machine. Biggest front to blind in the history of wakeboarding... I think the whirlybird is the only trick I never saw him do.

Am I the only one that thinks the 'orbital 5' is kind of an ugly roll to blind?

Shapiro is my favorite rider.

you need to see his orbital 5 in 12 honkeys and you
will change your mind.

Shapiro has a great section in Updog, but his section in 12 Honkeys is one of his best. I always liked the power that he rode with.

Shapiro was the only rider I liked until recently. I still have a huge man crush on him, but since he's not around as much had to move on.

Is it true that somebody payed him $1 mil to never pickup a wakeboard again? And now he surfs everyday in Hawaii

I was at his camp in Florida last month and he rode with us the whole time!
My favorite section of him was in switch 22 which kinda old but a classic nonetheless!
Old     (knarbar)      Join Date: Nov 2006       07-30-2008, 11:30 AM Reply
switch 22 was one of my favorite vids along with mayday. Murray and Shapiro in switch 22 were epic and so was Vandalls section in Mayday. Sorry to get off subject but if anyone hasnt seen these videos you gotta check em out.

I rode the flowrider at adrenalina with Darin, one of the greatest days of my life!!!

I've always like Darin, he went so huge. If we're bringing up the older guy, Brannon Johnson was the cleanest rider I've ever seen. Everything he did was stomped, just clean.

I love Darin's section in UpDog. He's killing it. I would like to see more of his riding videos myself.

Plenty of open space in the Legends Room. The Scud, goes without question, until some DBs starts a thread, "what's so great about Shapiro?"

WE already know they are, how they ride, etc, etc. It's great to take a moment and refect upon the greatness.

Holy moly! Chris, is that recent or from back in the day?

I don't really know. Mike Ferraro sent it to his students and copied me in. Telling them to stop trick skiing.Lol. The thing is Darin wants to do a frontside 3 on the way down.Darin sent it to Mike today.
Old     (kcrider)      Join Date: Jul 2008       07-30-2008, 4:28 PM Reply
glad to see Darin getting some love!! You know I can't really think of any wakeboarder I don't like. They all represent what we all love to do. RIDE!! Whether they are stylish, really techinical, or just like to go out and powerslide. It doesn't matter. As long as they inspire someone else to ride, its all good

Joe, that was shot today in Russia.Pretty cool for an old guy huh??

Shapiro is unreal. I once remember seeing him throw a s-bend to blind. It was seeing him on ESPN back in 1997 that got me into wakeboarding.

His iron cross in updog made me do the humpy jumpies
Old     (sixeye)      Join Date: Apr 2005       07-30-2008, 10:15 PM Reply
And his speedball was unreal.

Dude, that iron cross in Updog just like, blew me away. Easily one of the coolest, most powerful tricks I'd ever seen. That video got me introduced to his music, and he let me use some of it for Gauntlet. Definitely a chill guy. I'm hoping to get to go to his camp sometime next year. Maybe spring break or somethin.

And Chris. What the hell was that. I don't know whether to watch for spins or something else. It's like, he's 40 feet in the air just upside down... Wooooow.
Old     (waterdork88)      Join Date: Aug 2005       07-30-2008, 10:46 PM Reply
its a vulcan

someone might be able to describe the trick better. basically an s-bend (raley/bs ole 3) then a fs 180 before landing if that made any sense. thats the way i always looked at it.
Old     (mattfla)      Join Date: Feb 2008       07-31-2008, 12:10 AM Reply
I am pretty sure that he is doing that switch since he is a regular foot.
Old     (mattfla)      Join Date: Feb 2008       07-31-2008, 12:15 AM Reply
That looks 20 feet high and grabbed!
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       07-31-2008, 7:14 AM Reply
I know that it was a vulcan... But WHAT WAS THAT! I've never seen video of anyone THAT straight up in the air.....
Old     (wayz)      Join Date: Jun 2005       07-31-2008, 8:07 AM Reply
He got booted big time! Nice!
Old     (focker)      Join Date: Aug 2006       07-31-2008, 8:24 AM Reply
and he has back problems?? NO WAY!
Old     (eternalshadow)      Join Date: Nov 2001       07-31-2008, 8:35 AM Reply
Part of the reason I fell in love with wakeboarding.
Old     (xistential)      Join Date: Jul 2007       07-31-2008, 9:32 AM Reply
The reason he sent that to Mike is that he wants to do a frontside 3 on the way down and he wanted Ferraro to tell him if he thinks it's possible. Lol. You gotta love it.
