Hey all, I've been boarding for a few years now, just for fun... I grew up water skiing, and got tired of going back and forth :-) .... I'm looking for advice as to what steps to take to get better... my goal for this summer is to get a back flip, or front flip down... (not sure what the trick name is) At what point should I be at before I could realistically land one of these?

Thanks!

You probably should have wake to wake jumps down both toeside and heelside. Have your 180's both ways for the most part. I guess in general be comfortable on the board and solid in your basics.

I can land 180's both ways.... I'm pretty shakey with my left foot forward, but I can kind of do it... what is the easiet trick after a 180 to try?

A grabbed 180. Grab it slob, mute, nose. They can be a lot of fun. Grab before you spin, while you spin, or after. Then it's time for a flip or a 360.

I haven't tried any grabs... they don't look that difficult, but I'm sure I have no idea.. is a back flip easier than a front flip?

back is easier

cool... do you start to flip as soon as you hit the wake, or when you're at the top of your jump... I've seen some people do it, and it looked like they didn't even need a wake...

make sure to get the basics down first, for a while i could do 3 360s and 1 180(ts)... and i learned 2 flips before i landed a heelside 180. once i started to land more advanced stuff i did not feel like going back to the basics. also i started riding behind a jetski (on a roam) some and it helped my switch riding and my 180s. after a few weeks of that my riding behind the boat was much more fun because i could link more moves togeather. but the biggest factor in getting better for me was just more water time.
good luck Kal!

When you do a flip/roll you edge all the way through the wake just like a wake jump only a little more aggressive. The tension in the line pops you up and the board will basically wash out from under you. It is important to not "throw" the trick before you leave the water. Just like trying to spin before you leave, it will create problems.
