Stupid thing was kicking my ass all day. My landings feel hard and I'm having a hard time holding on. Do I need to land less heel heavy? If so, how do I make the board land more flat? The landing on the only of these I've ever pulled off was effortless, but I have no video of it to examine what I did differently.

Hey Alain,
You need to keep the handle closer to your hips and just lay back and allow your body to rotate around the handle. There shouldn't be any major tension in the handle when you land, and just keep edging away from the boat.

chris: after watching that video several times, I can't see what you mean: the handle is very close to his hips. Could it be that he is almost "balled" up while in the air? Maybe breaking at the hips right at the wake is the reason for this...

I do break at the waist kinda weird. Not sure why. I could also probably do better by keeping both hands on the handle. Well gotta keep at it I guess, I was just hoping there's something obvious I'm missing..

I can also see that you are popping off the wake which is great. But, until you land them consistantly just let the wake do the work for you. I agree Garret his handle is close to his hips in height I mean bring the handle in closer to himself so there is no way to pull on the handle.

2 things. First off, you are squatting down when you are already half way into your cut. Set your hip position before you cut it. So, edge out toeside, flatten out, and squat down to where it feels comfortable. Your squat looked about right for a poppy wake to wake backroll. This will help you hold your edge all the way two the wake, without losing line tension. This brings us to the 2nd problem, edge all the way up the wake. Your board is pretty flat at the top of the wake, try to actually edge the board away from the boat so that it really EXPLODES off the wake and wips around. Do these two thigns and you should be stomping backrolls in not time

Chad...your advice rocks my world. I landed my first two rolls on Sunday, after I changed my cutting position! Felt totally sweet. Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem when i was first learning this. On the landing it would feel like the rope was just yanked out and then I would just tumble or slide out. The key for me was to find a focal point as soon as I was out of the roll this brought my head and shoulders up (i focused on the boat tower). Now if you can control your distance to land on the down sloap and do what chad said about exploding it, the whole trick drives itself.
