I have been looking around at past threads and have been trying to get a shopping list together to make my own... Has anybody made their own recently?
As a recent college grad working my first job I just can't shell out even 1000 for a single entity 10-10... I'm looking to keep a low budget and get some decent sound.
What mid/bass drivers should I be looking to get? Which HLCD, crossover and horn?
I have been looking at Eminence stuff which I think NVS did (does?) use...
Now... that I'm on a budget I'm not going to do anything too wild... either make something similar to a 10-10 or a pair of addictions... Not an audiophile by any means... trying to dig through all of this, any recommendations?
Looking at speakerrepair.com ... I cannot find what the cone/surround material is on the eminence mid/bass driver is made of. What can I expect for water resistance from these? I think I read wetsounds can withstand weather?
Building my own I would probably design a quick release system, and I live on a lake so all I would have to do is carry them up the bank or store them in a dry spot.
Any input guys? I would gladly buy some wetsounds or NVS if I had the loot but I don't have the discretionary income, atleast not right now in my life. Any help on all the speaker components/amps to push them is greatly appreciated.

Duane

Im pretty sure there is no less than 1000 threads on how to build your own set of NVS in the Archive section. Either that you you could E-mail Tim @ Wet sounds. He claims to have every HCLD thread on Wakeworld saved LOL

By the time you have bought all your material and go through the trail and error process to get the sound you want, I bet you'd have spent close to $1000 or even more. Forget about building an Amp if you're a rookie and are not already in the business.

Save your money and keep you eyes out for a used set of Wetsounds or NVS, etc. Once in a while, you can find a good deal if you're ready to jump at it. Same goes for amps.

If you're not going to start your own business and compete with those already in the market, then don't bother wasting your time and money to build one set!!!

Delta, I might have a set of used 1010s if you're interested. I can make a call if you want.

kvoman I'm not gonna build my own amp! lol I've read here and there I can buy whats needed for like 550-700 bucks or so? Grant I've been looking and have found some good info and sifted through a lot of garbage... guess I need to figure out how to use the search engine to find what I want better.
I know the proper amp to push em will be good $$ but the fact of the matter is... to someone like me... saving money... $100-$500+ MATTERs... maybe I'm not ballin' enough yet to get pro audio... will have to resort to moochin of my buddy phil with deafcon Vs lol

I'm not much help in regards to your original question, but about a year ago I bought a used set of Wetsounds Pro-80's with a Kicker KX650.4 amp for $650. The amp and speakers were in great shape (even came with Speaker Sox), and sound great to my ears. They put out more sound than the rest of my family can tolerate. I know there are other similar deals out there if you are patient, probably even better.

I looked into it. The cost was more than I thought it would be after you put all the pieces together. Also, if you are on a budget, you won't have much room for error if you don't get the end result you are wanting. The look and quality of the enclosure may not be what you are envisioning. In the end, I wound up going a different route due to time constraints/budget. I bought some Kicker KMT6's and I have been pleased. They aren't on the level of the HLCD Pro Audio stuff, but they are better than cans. It was a nice compromise for me.
As far as resources, I searched the site for info and there are also some good write ups on http://www.bierbower.net/diytower/home.htm
If I am not mistaken, the Eminence stuff is paper cones and there is a coating you buy to spray on them.

yep reading those writeups at biertower... I am possibly looking into wetsounds... I don't know how I feel about the eminence cones being paper. I can store them out of the elements but being on the lake just because I see clouds or a "storm" doesn't mean I believe it till I feel rain drops lol so the wetsounds seem more to my liking. I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for some good deals. I have all winter...... to spend my money on skiing DOH

Keep your eyes open. There have been a few deals here in the classifieds that almost made me get out my check book. I have seen deals on both WetSounds or NVS.
