Anyone here have any insight/experience with these? Looking to replace my Sharp Carousel and want it to be a countertop appliance.

GE Advantiums are not in the same category.

Thanks.

What do you mean by "not in the same category"?

Get a really good toaster oven instead. You will love it. Warmed pizza only takes a couple minutes vs a couple seconds and actually tastes like pizza. Food cooked in a microwave is no longer fit to be called food. Those things are not good for you.

If you insist on cooking in a microwave. please don't use plastic cookware.

I am not making this stuff up. They are seriously not good for you.

My parents house came with one, I never had the courage to throw in an expensive roast or anything that I'd normally cook in the oven, it just didn't seem right. What exactly are you looking to use the convection oven part for?

By my standards Advantium is neither a "microwave oven" nor is it a convection oven. It is in it's own category... because it is an expensive arse "light bulb" and once it burns out - it is very expensive to replace.

Microwave ovens technically don't "cook" food but does a great job of warming/defrosting/melting.
But if used properly ( which many people don't know how) you can cook with a microwave. Corn, broccoli. eggs ... to name a few. It can also help with shortening the baking time of a russet potato. Would never attempt it with a sweet potato though.

TJ - are you talking about the Advantium or a convection oven at your parents house?
Convection oven is something I want to try with baking. It's something that helps with cutting down on baking time when making large batches/quantities. With the hot air being circulated it helps with even browning & cooking. A huge plus when making cookies.

Thanks for the input .

I got a double oven, but the top one is a micro/convection oven. I like it a lot because it takes half the time to pre heat, like 5 -7 min, and less time to cook the same dish in a regular oven. Mine is kitchen aid but they should all be about the same. Mine takes all the guess work out of how long and at what temp to use it at. I enter in the temp for whatever I'm cooking and the time and the oven converts it to convection time and temp. It makes cooking smaller meals for 2 a whole lot easier.

Thank you jv210 for your input especially the info about cooking for 2.

For those who don't think that microwaves are useful for " cooking" checkout this food blog:
