most environmentally friendly boats

Thought this would make an interresting topic.

I'dd like to know which boat is the most environmentally friendly boat? We are loading alot of weight in theses beasts and I'd like to know which boat is going to cause the least pollution and which will have the best fuel economy.

I'm guessing that the B52, because of the 2 speed(?) transmission, may be good, but I really don't know.

I was going to joke it, but the MPI motors are the least polluting.

I think the new PCM 6.0 370hp is very low on emissions.

Toyotas Epic line has a 300 hp lexus engine that was supposedly 60% more feul efficient than other comp boats. Good luck finding one though, they left the industry, and are only making replacement part for the next 10 years. the resale on those must be awful.

if u change it to gas rather than petrol you'll improve it tonnes

The conversion to Propane or natural gas is quite common in Europe, because of the expensive petrol prices.

Are you saying you can convert any standard gas engine into a propane or natrual gas engine? If so how much does that cost?

Well here, it costs 7000 euros (about $8400) thats all install, with on-land propane tank. So it would be cheaper if you didn't need that and just used the propane from a gas station.
So what people do is convert the first engine, then when they sell the boat/car, take all the components out and sell it as a petrol. And just change the next engine themselves, now they have all the pieces. If you use the boat/car regularly, you save a bundle.
Although, I never actually been there, when people convert their engines, but they say its pretty easy, its just the first install thats expensive. I've only seen it on D-drives and various SUV's, but it can be done to any gas engine.

Also check with your local laws, like here, you're not alloud to use propane power on the sea. But lakes and rivers are ok.

In the Netherlands it's quit common to do that. And it's not that expensive (around e1700 euros or $1500). Most people over here install small removeble propane tanks (40ltr=10gallons). You can leave the boat in the water, take the tanks with you and fill them at almost every gasstation. LPG is about $1,40 the gallon where petrol is $4,50 the gallon over here. Plus propane (LPG) is about 50% less poluting.
LPG is no problem for the insurance, it's fully exepted.
You can drive on LPG without noticing it, is the tank empty, flip a switch and drive on petrol.

That's pretty cool. When your camping you usually have a few spare tanks tucked away anyways.

Sorry Harry ... Tried to share my point of view....

Phil, the engine consumes a little more on gas then on petrol (about 5-10%). But the newer systems (using there own injectors) are almost as efficient as Petrol (perhaps 1-3%). With the newer systems you gain some HP (due the colder air/gas mixture and about 1-5% gain) with LPG.

My mastercraft is on propane and came that way from mastercraft and so is the vehicle I tow it with (land rover discovery).
In the UK propane (or LPG as we call it) is half price at the filling stations and even cheaper at most lakes.
Pollution is down, runs smoother, cheaper and better for the engine.
For a days boarding say 7 -8 hours I will use 20 gallons or so of LPG. I have a 25 gallon onboard tank so no worries about running out.
