NO NO NO. I trust them but still a big huge no. Dont have an really good reason either.

I would let them borrow my truck, car or watch my house while I was on vacation, but my boat is out of the question. I guess if it was an old beater of a boat that you didn't care for that much then sure.

If they sink your boat, I think you would be extremely pissed off.... I know I would.... That would be my biggest fear....

it's just a boat......yes I let good friends borrow my boat, only the one who own boats themselves. I live on a lake with my boat in the lift so I guess the circumstances are a little different. I haven't let anyone borrow my new boat ...yet...give me a couple of months.

My brother in law and I owned a boat together and he put all the scratches on our boat. Never washed or waxed it and never took his trash out of it. His wife would let their son pee on the carpet of the boat, because mainly she was a drunk and to lazy to put diapers on him. That was in front of me, who knows what happened when they took our boat by themselves. They blame the horrible smell on Clear Lake which I sure is true, but the kid piss must of been a factor.

my dad had let a long time customer of ours barrow my boat and it came back with dock scuffs all over it. a riped seat and all the ballast drain pumps burnt up and all the ballast pump wiring had almost all the insulation burnt off of it. i was piZZed. i guess some people don't treat other boats how they treat theirs.

Yeah, I had this same question in my mind when I was thinking about asking a friend of mine to borrow his LSV. Then I started looking at buying a boat of that caliber, and now have one on the way ( vRide ). I would now never ask to borrow his boat. There are just too many things that can go wrong on the water. I'd possibly let him borrow mine, but that would be the only person, since he has a experience with direct drives and he's a dentist to pay for it :-)

I too looked at going in on a boat with my brother in law. While I think he would do everything he could to take care of it, there are just too many variables when boating. Even if it wasn't his fault, I'd have issues with scratches and such on a $50K boat. So I just bought it myself and we'll go out together.

depends if it is a friend that has bayliner experience or a friend that has personally been on your boat already many times and is fully aware of how everything functions. If the person says his parents have an outboard and he knows how to operate that fine, then I instantly say no. Anyone that doesnt know how to drive an inboard is bound to somehow screw it up. Also know that where ever they take the boat they know like the back of their and your hand.

So all in all I would say it takes a very special person/current boat owner to be allowed the privilege of borrowing the boat, plus I would expect the boat to come back with more gas then it left with and to be spotless. A case of beer in the cooler wouldn't hurt either.

its funny, cause I wouldnt let my best friend anywhere near it. I don't even like letting him drive when I'm in the boat.

but I'm much more comfortable with some of my other buddies. Just because somebody is your friend doesnt make them responsible

My wife takes her girlfriends out on the boat.... Usually I meet up with them...later in the day. But I encourage it, even if I am not going.

ive let my friend borrow my boat while his was in the shop but he has a boat and i trust him and know he has enough money to pay for any damage he does :-)

and i would let my wife take the boat out by herself if she would get better at driving the truck and trailer

noone takes out my boat, my tahoe, or my motorcycle without me in/on it. As for my motorcycle, noone touches that period because I don't ride on the back.

crashing a car is one thing, most likely its fixable, crashing a boat is another, most likely it sinks.

if I am at the lake (staying on a houseboat) I will let a "select few" take my boat. i also must say that these people let me use thier boats also.
as far backing up to my trailer and taking off with it, Heck NO!

My buddies have taken my boat out a few times, but I always made sure a member of my family went with them, of course, and I don't have a high dollar boat. They also have helped chip in on the boat for maintenance and other things over the years. Also, any time the boat needs repairs, they come over and help until the job is done. One of my buddies has even helped me with household projects, cutting grass at the river place, etc over the years and he is about as close to being a brother as a friend could be. That being said, it wouldn't have happened if it were a newer/pricier boat.

"Anything is fixable..." The boat yes, but if it needs to be fixed and the borrower is a little light in the pocket, the friendship might not be. That being said, I have both borrowed, and lent. I have also been a part of two successful boat partnerships.

I let one friend use my boat for a while when his was getting fixed and I was out of town for a long time. No problems and he even changed the oil.

I would let the right friend in the right situation borrow the boat.

My wife and sister together, anytime.

A few other's anytime, but few other's.

A have damaged a friends boat but I treated it exactly as if it was mine. Having financial means to solve the potential problems is very important.

I borrowed boats twice and boy was I cautious. Mine was out of commission and I had family to entertain.

There are very few people I would trust not because they would be disrespectful of my machine but its the accidental stuff and familiarity with the operation and waterway hazards.

I would say no, but when my brother offered to let me take his wakesetter out with my teenager and his teenager, I cautiously said I would. Upon loading the boat, his son drove the boat on and my son hooked up the front and I pulled ahead, got out to pull the plug and the motor was still running. maybe for 10 seconds out of the water. I went down the next week and bought him a new one. with boating murphy's law prevails......."If something can go wrong, IT WILL."

I let my cousin borrow my old boat(85 bu) a couple years ago. I thought he was responsible...Boat came back with some interior pcs broken. When I questioned him, he said he didn't know that would have happened. I had to repair it since he wouldn't take responsibility for it. Lesson Learned

If you want to keep them as freinds never lend your boat to them. Invariably, if anything happens, its never their fault. Some one else did something to the boat. If something happens when you have it you pay for it. If something happens when they have it you still pay for it!

2 People could take the boat out with out me in it. One has the same boat I do and is very cautious and a good driver. The other has an inboard and is a good driver. The major things are conditions even if its windy out or a chance or rain the boat stays on the lift with out me in it.

Sure, lend anything to a friend. Just be sure that if you don't get it back it won't wreck the friendship. Goes for money and lawnmowers too.
