Yearly, every couple of years, or when it fails?

I always carry a spare on the boat just in case it fails.

Every season, if it needs it or not. If you do this you will always have a spare...

I keep an eye on my operating temp. When it starts to go up I know it's time to change it. I have a spare and tools to do it on the water though. Sucks doing it on a V drive.

When I start to get hot at idle, I replace it. That's usually early enough that I don't have to go chasing down impeller bits.
