My buddy and I had this same discussion. He was doing the same thing, but I wasn not. We both learned the mechanics of a tantrum from the Higher Education dvds. After reviewing tapes of ourselves, It was clear that he was opening up to the shore too late, and too hard. He was opening up, looking over his shoulder and throwing backwards at the same time. The above advice is good, throw straight back. I like looking over my shoulder to orient myself, so I open my shoulders about 5 feet from the wake, line up the board in the trough, start to stand as I go up the wake, throw straight up and back, and look over my shoulder as I pull the board up.
