A buddy of mine was getting ready to ride and stepped onto the swim platform of our '05 21v when his foot slipped. His knee brace caught the vinyl on the motor box and ripped a nice size piece of vinyl. My dealer called Supra and they said $240 for a replacement. Is there a cheaper option without sacrificing quality? I am attaching a picture of the location and general size.

$240 is probably installed and it's the whole skin. Not that bad IMO.

Just got off the phone with my dealer and that is the skin only. I would rather go with the factory and know for sure it is right, but my wife is thinking there is a cheaper option. She thinks vinyl is vinyl and all we have to do is find a gray piece similar and we are set!

How big/wide is the rip? I've seen some vinyl repair guys works miracles before. Can you snap a picture?

The picture is pretty close to actual size. The vinyl came all the way off in almost a perfect circle about 2" in diameter. The foam and plastic liner are fine. For those of you who wear knee braces, watch the hinges on the vinyl.

Any decent upholstery shop should be able to replace the grey portion of the pad pretty simply...see if Skier's Choice can provide a couple square feet of the grey vinyl and have a local shop stitch it into the pad.

Even then, I would bet you are looking at a couple hundred minimum...it may be just as cheap to replace the whole skin, since there would be no sewing involved, just stretching/stapling it to the hatch piece.
