I was just watching Delta Sessions today, and noticed kevin bird and mike schweene wearing solbound bindings. I own two pairs, and will never step into another binding unless they break. Who else has ridden solbound, and did you like them?

Footbeds look to thin. The Vandall must have dented his boards wearing those!

I have them, love them, and if I could, I'd produce some offspring with them so I could ride them forever. Seriously, the later models had some nice footbeds. Joe, I'm a sinner, and I still owe you a pic of the foot bed...

Oh, I have the vandals...

The later models do have a better footbed. I love mine. Super comfortable. I keep switching between my Gators and the Solbounds but the Solbounds are much lighter.

Can I see a picture? curious to see what they look like
Old    walt            11-10-2004, 4:39 PM Reply
I've got a pair and love them. I just bought a pair of 05 CWB Zeus bindings and I think I might like the Solbounds better. I'm going to stick with the CWB's for a bit and then switch back to the Solbounds and see if I still feel the same way.

walt, if you end up goin' back to solbounds, sell me the zeus for 50 bucks!

Joe, I don't think they make them that small. J/K

what is it about the "solbounds" that everyone is so crazy about?? I cannot get a pair to try so I'd appreciate if anyone explained it to me.

It's the spikes dood, and the west side sign. Nothing says, "I'm hard core" like a pair of those babies.

its just simply a basic binding design with no bull to it, hands down one of the best that i ever liked.
Old     (electricsnow)      Join Date: May 2002       11-11-2004, 3:38 PM Reply
Joe! Joe! No....I never meant for it to end like this...

Yes, I DID paint my plates pink. And the other picture has some thruster straps I got this past may when I bought an erich schmaltz pro model.

Also, I personally love these bindings because (as vince said) they're a no BS design. They're comfortable (for me), they hold my foot in nicely, and they're super adjustable. Also, I don't need any sort of lubricant to slip them on, and that's a huge plus.

Dang Chef seeing those thruster slippers, just reminded me of the good old days. Did any of you get to ride or see rogers shackle bindings? I think I have a set some where I will do some digging. Now they are the Solbound OG's (BTW if you rode them you guys are old.)

I remember them. i remember Mike getting WORKED at Boardstock '96 in them as well. Mike did more sick stuff in those bindings than most people today. Last time I talked with him he was recovering from a broken leg(moto). He still puts out a few here and there, but insurance kills him. He was trying to work something out with CD.

electricsnow, thanks for the pics.

the footbeds look a lot thicker, but i'm still not sure about the rest of the bindings. i do like "flexible" bindings to be able to poke out grabs, but i still want them supportive and stiff enough for those bad wrecks (like my lukes). also, the strap, i had a problem with them staying in its place. maybe they've improved that, along with the other things. i'd prolly check 'em out again...maybe.

Schwenne, Aubrey and Doud are all former riders of Solbounds and still love them. Schwenne will still throw them on his board from time to time. Here's some evidence from my photo vault:

If you ride Solbounds, maybe you can poke out your grabs like Mike Schwenne... or maybe not. Lake McClure, 2003.

Aaron Aubrey also swore by Solbounds just last year. He rides pretty good, too, in case you didn't know.

Daniel Doud has taken some wrecks in Solbounds, he also throws down, too.

Garrett

Joe....can we....I mean, does this mean we're friends again? hahahaha, to each his own, to each his own. Again, I loved the "binders" that's all I can say. I can't even help it...it's kind of like cinderella and her glass slippers...

And I remember the solbound shackles (the original shackles)! Mike must have been the last professional to rock straps...and me laddy, he rocked them hard!!
