Anyone know what the advantages are to running a 3 wire alt vs 1 wire? Seems like the 1 wire is alot simpler and easier to install. I have a 96 MC PS 190 w/ the 350 in it. Currently have a 3 wire. Will I run into any issues by switching to a 1 wire?

nope you should not have any problems. The only difference is a self exciting regulator. When you hit 700 Rpm the alt will automatically kick on. When I replave mine I'll go to a 1 wire, that is what I have run in the past.

Thanks shawn, I thoguht that it would not be an issue. I actually just ordered the 135 amp alt. from the guy you posted about. He helped explain everything. I was trying to over-complicate it. He said he doesn't even reccomend putting a circuit breaker on it. He said on a two battery setup hook the main power lead to the postivie terminal on your starting battery. As long as you have an inline fuse protecting the amps I'll be ok w/o a circuit breaker.

Yeah I just put one on just to be anal about it. I'm glad he hooked you up. You will love the new alt. If you have anyother questions just give me a holler!!

what voltage are you seeing @ idle w/ all accesories off? He said the regualtors are set @ 14.2.

I don't understand how they can make them that cheap and not want a core back? I went to my local guy who built my 90amp, and said it would be around $200+ to rebuild one that big, and he wanted my core.

NO idea how he does it. I'm seing right at 14.1 on average. They are about bullet proof.
