Considering building a park in Minnesota and trying to do some research. It would be in Minneapolis.

Wanted to see if there is enough interest to support. Concerned about season length. Would most of you ride in May, September, and October?

Appreciate any thoughts. If we do it, it will be done right!

Well we rode behind the boat from early May to end of Sept this year. so i'd ride cable from May to October no doubt. I think you'd have enough support for it, could probably even draw in a big crowd of MN snowboarders. but you're really at a disadvantage with only 6 or 7 months of summer at the most. Would you dome it in the winter, or just let it freeze? I also think you'd really have to promote it BIG TIME to make up for the loss of useable months. If you could think of a way to productively use it during the winter, you'd be set. that's my two cents.

Wakenation in cinci has the same problem as you with a short wakeboard year and they are slammed all the time. Make your cable atleast 32' and wide enough to do a trick to the inside and come back through the bouys. Also don't sacrifice quality for quantity!!!

heck yes boat ownership in MN is so high there would be plenty of interest. It would be way easier to take a cable run in the fall instead of taking the boat out in the cold and then winterizing.

I would drive from wisco to use it while at school... prob like 2/3 times a week

We have a very good property in a central location in city. Would be a spring - fall location with possible snowboarding in the winter. We would have a large cable and a two tower system. Trying to figure how strong the demand will be in the short season. Like I said, if we were to do it, it will be on par with the best parks in the country.

If you do it, I promise with my SSN that I would get a yearly pass! Plus I know of MANY who would be interested!

I think a cable would be great in MN, I think alot of the wakeboarders get fed up from all the tubers on the lakes at 9am, at least I do. You thinking like suburbs of MPLS??? I totally think MN would benefit from a Cable no question.

what are they doing with the metrodome?
Old     (brycejb328)      Join Date: Aug 2009       10-11-2009, 7:29 AM Reply
Its not being marketed as the "metrodome" anymore. Its being called "mall of america stadium" or something like that. More specifics to the vikes cause the twins have their outdoor setup now. I believe its short term till the vikes get a new stadium.

Hijack over.

A cable park would be great. I think there would be plenty of people to support it. A cable park draws a much bigger group of people than boat wakeboarding. Go for it.
Old     (jeff_mn)      Join Date: Jul 2009       10-11-2009, 8:26 AM Reply
Yep, our crew of guys would support it for sure. We're MPLS metro and I know we'd all ride it. I'm sure a lot of people would come out of the woodwork. A lot of the "up north" riders who go up during the weekends would now be able to ride during the week.
Old     (tfranklin22)      Join Date: May 2007       10-11-2009, 9:14 AM Reply
we have a big crew from iowa that would make the trip alot!
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       10-11-2009, 1:03 PM Reply
I would ride there 3 times a week for sure. Probably more. We ride way late into Novemebr Early December, and usually start riding again in March.

The nice thing about a cable lake would be that its small so the Ice would come off quick.

If you need any help on this project I would love to give me experience and advice.

I would ride it, I never pull the boat out until November. Be sick to have a quick get out after work. Let me know if you need some help I know some guys who tired a couple years ago but got tied up with red tape and funds.

If Minnesota gets a cable before California I can die because Hell has officially frozen over!

There is a System 2.0 in MN that was purchased recently. I will let the owner pipe up when he is ready to make new friends.

There's nothing wrong with you guys getting a cable park, there's just everything wrong with AZ not having one! :-)

Great idea with having it pull snowboard park in the winter it would probably have very high year-around demand if done for snow too!!!

Nothing wrong at all! I want there to be as many cable parks in the US as possible, just bummin because I dont have one in my backyard!

If we do this, it will be a real cable park, not a 2.0.

And don't worry Arizona, you will be getting a park soon.....

In order to make any money at it, I think you'll definitely have to figure for a snowboard park in the winter. Hopefully the insurance won't kill ya.

Count me in.

i think a cable park would be successful here. although, personally for me, i probably would only ride it a few times a month...I'm a sucker for the big, gas burnin' wake.

i too think you'd have to do something for the winter.

I drove 6 hours to go to the cable in Kansas City and had never ridden one before and I am totally sold on cable riding after just one experience, I have a feeling many other riders in MN and the surrounding area would be too after riding one. I think a lot of the riders who maybe don't have the big wakeboard boats would love it as well.

That will be fun to finally hit rails on a wakeboard. Done it plenty on a snowboard after living in Park City for 4 seasons.

Andy - not saying i wouldn't enjoy it, i know i would. just wouldn't as much as riding wake. i've ridden the cable park a few times, and also hit sliders behind the boat a couple times...i'm just more of a wake rider. with our wicked short seasons(this year especially), i know i'd make getting out behind the boat my first priority.

^ reguardless of if you would/wouldn't use it lie, then it will happen.

what Jay means to say, is, he will be there 7 days a week... and hopes you have a boat too.

Without a doubt me and my buddies would be there. I have been to OWC once and it was a blast. I would love to get a chance to legitimately hit rails in midwest.

@csswake3, where did you see the pic of the lake on 10k wakes?? If it was at the bottom of the page, of "Trophy Lake", i don't think thats it. that's a seperate private gated community lake near New Germany, if i remember hearing right.

Hey I would be in, its horrible not living by one after living a year in FL, you should look at McCormicks with the clockwise rotation cuz I'm regular... lol. But seriously theirs holds 8 people at a time, and the island is awesome at keeping waves down. Definitely the best park I've ever rode, next is TSR. Haven't made it out to the Cincinnati one yet, that looks good too.

MK, got it. i misunderstood ya. but yeah you're right it does look pretty sick! livin in a gated community, your own private lake to board on. that'd be nice, to say the least.

I agree with Andy - a giant DT....

I like many have thought about this, and tried to figure out a way.... hell - I even found a pretty fantastic spot (IMO) - right on a major highway... private - and all businesses around it... and the space to build a building/shop/bar/starting area...
Upload

but the truth of the matter is, you'll still need some serious funding - - funding with an economy when no one is lending money. From what I've read and studied - you're looking at 500k - 750k to really create something like what KC/OWC has... and I just don't think anyone is lending money to entrepreneurs starting a cable park.

Don't get me wrong - if someone were to do something like this - fantastic - - I'll be there with the rest of my MN crew with board and money in hand... and do what ever I can to support someone that has the balls to live the dream....
