Terry, I see my name but I've totally lost track of this train wreck of a thread - I have no idea what we were discussing :-)

Carson is pulling even with Trump supposedly. It's clear primary voters are in the wind bouncing around between anyone who hasn't held office before. Who knows where they will land ultimately...

“You might not care if Donald Trump says Muslims must register with their government because you’re not one. And you might not care that Donald Trump says he's going to round up all the Hispanic immigrants because you're not one. And you might not care that Donald Trump says it’s OK to rough up black protesters because you're not one,” Moe said. “And you might not care if Donald Trump wants to suppress journalists because you’re not one. But think about this: If he keeps going and he actually becomes president, he might just get around to you, and you better hope that there’s someone left to help you.”

-- retired Col. Tom Moe, who was shot down during combat duty in Vietnam and spent “the next five years alongside U.S. Sen. John McCain.”

Every election it is harder and harder for me to vote republican. Then I look at my Democratic options and I want to run away. Still, I'd rather have Hillary (gasp) than Trump or especially Carson.

There are really 4 options politically:
1. No personal freedoms and no economic freedom (Communism/Dictatorship)
2. Personal/social freedoms, but no economic freedom (Democrat - Socialism)
3. Economic freedoms, but no personal/social freedoms (Republican - Conservative)
4. Personal/social freedoms and economic freedom (Libertarian)

There are more choices than Red and Blue and it looks like Gary Johnson is running again for the libertarian party: https://reason.com/blog/2015/11/19/g...s-syria-terror, The libertarian party is the foundation of what this country was built on to avoid corruption in government and provide the people their personal and economic freedoms and liberties.

The media only covers Red and Blue because the lobbyists for groups that have money are all trying to push their own agenda. The U.S. is corrupt and the only way to get around it is to educate the people about its corruption. Bernie Sanders knows it's corrupt, but he's trying to take away more freedoms and create more taxes that the middle class can not afford to give. If you don't see the middle class affected negatively you're delusional.

Sanders and Johnson are hush-hush because they are not going to be swayed by the big corporation's agenda. Hopefully if people see how crappy our choices are for democrat and republican, the libertarian party will get more attention.

You said it. I still think Hillary is the lesser of two evils - and I'm republican. Basically a Trump nomination is handing the keys to the WH to Clinton.

Unfortunately, with our 2 party system, not voting for one nominee equals a vote for the other. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

Its scary. One the one side you have kids that expect everything for free or they throw little temper tantrums on campus and one the other you have people dumb enough to vote for Trump. All the while we are stuck in the middle.

Wakeworld represents a very small segment of the population. I would wager a guess that the majority of our members are white, male, 25-45 years old, well educated and high income (when compared to the majority of the population). Trump's appeal is to the white male, less than college educated older people who think things should be "the way they were" and are more afraid of being killed by a terrorist than they are of dying in a car accident. These are people who are easily scared and manipulated, and they are also the same segment of the population that believe if they don't pass along a chain letter to 10 people in the next 5 minutes they will die a terrible death, or that a Nigerian price wants to share his fortune with them. Unfortunately, that represents 20+ % of the republican party, but fortunately not enough of the population to ACTUALLY win a general election.

The way they were? You mean back when the economy wasn't on the verge of collapse, and our country was more secure? Yeah that would suck.

Trump is reckless and he would likely cause us all kinds of problems. Many of which I agree with in this thread. I do however agree with some of policies that many are offended by. I wish we could have just a little bit of Trump in an overall better candidate.

Economy on verge of collapse -- that was August of 2008, when the investment banks really did almost break the economy.

Country was more secure -- when was that, exactly? Or stated a different way, what security are you worried about? In a free society it is IMPOSSIBLE to prevent occasional random acts by crazies. Whether they be "inspired" by Jody Foster (Hinckley), Castro (Lee Harvey Oswald), columbine (Lanza), David Karesh and Ruby Ridge (McVey), ISIS or whatever. And the number of those killed by these crazies is very very VERY low.

The interwebs give people the ability to find and connect with people sharing their own weird passion from all over the world (hello WakeWorld!), and inevitably it's going to allow people who share the same deranged dillusions to connect.

Don't think that the next Adam Lanza won't be staying up all night watching youtube reruns of sandy hook. He will. Whatcha gonna do about that guy? What's Trump going to do about that guy?

Until you back up your statements of "verge of collapse" and "our country was more secure" with actual FACTS, then your statement has no merit. As Shawn mentioned, there is no shortage of examples in history of random violence.

I thought this quote is fitting
Quote:
Great again. This implies that Trump’s vision of America existed at some point in the past.

But it didn’t.

When in the past was that narrow and frightened greatness that Donald seeks, based on walls and religious litmus tests? 1791, when the Bill of Rights declared that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”? 1663, when the Rhode Island charter announced, “No person within the said Colony, at any time hereafter, shall be any wise molested, punished, disquieted, or called in question, for any differences in opinion, in matters of religion, who does not actually disturb the peace of our said Colony ; but that all and every person and persons may, from time to time, and at all times hereafter, freely and fully have and enjoy his own and their judgments and consciences, in matters of religious concernments, throughout the tract of land heretofore mentioned, they behaving themselves peaceably and quietly and not using this liberty to licentiousness and profaneness, nor to the civil injury or outward disturbance of others”?

Hardly. Trump’s America is a fantasy world. It’s like a more racist Oz, where the giant head gesticulating in front of the curtain is the Trump-Wizard’s only true form.

And he has, clearly, an active imagination. He dreamed up a fierce Civil War battle and a “River of Blood” and even put a commemorative plaque on the spot where this great big nothing happened.

He dreamed up a rally in New Jersey where thousands of Muslims celebrated on 9/11.

He dreamed up 250,000 Syrian refugees streaming into the country.

He dreamed up “rapists” and “murderers” flocking from Mexico.

He sees all of these things, vividly, in his mind, and he tells us about them using words that present no difficulty to midlevel readers. He won’t apologize. He won’t walk them back. To him, these things exist; they are as real as you or I.

Your statement has no consideration of our GDP. That's equivalent of someone who has $150k in debt (pretty low for the average homeowner) and makes $148k a year is on the verge of bankruptcy. To put this in perspective, the US has a debt to GDP ratio of 101% while Japan (4th largest economy in the world) has a debt to GDP ratio of 227%. Is our debt a problem? Yes. Is our economy on the verge of collapse? Hardly.

"In our conversation, I learned that the Fed believes the deficits will continue to improve until around 2020. Then, due to demographics (i.e. our aging population), entitlement spending will rise, placing a strain on the federal budget which will lead to higher deficits and a reacceleration of our debt. In essence, there will be more retirees receiving SocialSecurity*and Medicare. Entitlements are on course to become a significant issue unless Washington*takes preemptive action to gain control over its fiscal issues. If Congress continues to avoid this, we may not be able to avert a second and perhaps more dire crisis than we recently experienced."

Good article, I read this at the end and that seams to be the point I was trying to make!

Trump clearly likes to think he's the smartest guy in the room... and maybe he is? What if this is all a ruse to blow up the GOP because he wants to insure a HRC victory? I mean... isn't he on record in the not that long ago past as being a Dem and supporting HRC?

A trump independent run would blow the election for the GOP. Sure his supporters are morons (sorry guys, not you, the other ones) but the GOP absolutely positively NEEDS them to have a shot at winning in the general. Would Trump supporters ever vote for someone with a mexican last name like cruz or rubio or someone who doesn't speak american at home like Bush? I don't think so! So those guys stick with Trump as an independent (or stay home) and GOP loses.

Oh, ok, from your previous post you made it seem like we were on the brink of eminent collapse, when in reality you meant we really need to reform social security. Couldn't agree more

The decision to reform SS (i.e. changing the rules) should be based on value of the trust fund and the projected payout vs collections. It shouldn't be based on Govt debt. The trust fund invests in payable on demand treasury bills. If the demand goes up then so does the govt deficit spending. So if the govt wants to cut the deficit then it should either cut spending or raise tax revenue, not back out on it's debt to the trust fund by changing the rules.

I like other candidates other than Trump, however he does not sound anywhere near as dangerous as our current leaders (or anyone in the democrat camp) who wants to turn of the reigns to the UN in the name of man made global warming (oops, can't say man made because that is debunked).....I mean global warming (what? can't say that now either? What can I say?)....... in the name of climate change (or as we used to say, welcome to Indiana). I think Trump appeals because we Americans can see through the globalist agenda of the democrats and at least Trumps words are the opposite of that. He is a business man and even the base of the democrat party in the past (the union worker) understands if you keep opening the markets to the world without equalizer, America will continue to lose middle class jobs. I think Trump also understands how democrats are stacking the deck through not shutting down the illegal immigration. The goal is to create a demographic/ cultural change that will lead to voters who will go along with a globalist agenda. I will favor any candidate who will oppose the selling out of America.

I wonder if the GOP has the clout to knock Trump out of the nomination even if he's the favorite? I really doubt he could win the Presidency. So letting him win the nomination is probably a sure fire loss, and I bet they are thinking the same thing.

What the??? I DRIVE A DODGE AND THAT'S A HUGE INSULT!!! I had over 210K miles of trouble free miles on my Ram with nothing but one break job and a water pump change when I sold it! There IS no automotive comparison to Sanders unless you know of a car that takes itself apart and hands its own parts out, hands them to passersby and then hunts down nicer cars and pillages them too.

Mark I was using automobiles as an example. No one agrees on whats best or what's the worst. By the way Sanders has alot of miles on him too. It is a Brake job if we're being politically correct! I was just stirring the pot a little but this thread has plenty of spoons active at the moment.

Democrats say they are going to provide more services for Americans but we will have to pay for those services with a tax increase.

It's "socialism".

Republicans say they are going to go to war with Iran, Russia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and others and along with those wars which cost trillions (except Russia which costs the entire human race) they are going to give us all a tax break. This is the problem I have with Republicans. Democrats MIGHT be lying but Republicans HAVE TO BE LYING. Apparently they will pay for trillions of dollars in war and trillions of additional dollars from tax breaks for the richest of the rich by getting rid of a few hundred million dollars or so worth of welfare. The real numbers don't add up. We could send all of our kids to college for years in exchange for half of what we paid for the failed F-35 stealth jet program. We could pay off half the national debt with money that the pentagon LOST since 1996. We are giving our country's future away to 46 billionaires racing to see who can get to a trillion first. If you are blaming the poor or illegal immigrants, it's because you aren't informed and have chosen to bury your head in the sand listening to silver tongued radio DJs who make tons of money by selling you propaganda.

It's fascism.

bump in the road or beginning of the end? The Apprentice beats the Master and Trump was the Biggest Loser in Iowa.

I really hope Trump goes down in flames. Then we can all say in a Trump voice"You're Fired".

I'm betting Trump wishes he wouldn't have skipped the debate now. I can't believe how stupid he sounded last night when he talked about buying a farm in Iowa.

I wouldn't count Trump out. He was never going to beat that nut job Cruz in Iowa. Look who won there the last two times out - Santorum and Huckabee. Too many hardcore evangelicals. Skipping the debate didn't help Cruz as much as it did Rubio, who like Cruz is actually electable.

Seems like Trump got decent bang for the buck... Bush not so much

The news report I heard was that Bush supporters spent $15M at $3000 per vote.

You can try and paint Cruz as a religious fanatic if you wish, however he has his appeal as a constitutionalist. I could easily paint the democrats as religious fanatics. Strict government worshipers who try and bait the country into voting for their environmental religion.

I don't actually think he is a religious fanatic. He just plays one on tv.

Lots of fanatics to go around.

They are like conservative Christians. They adopt a philosophy based on a perversion of reality.

Trump joins Carson in calling Cruz a sleazebag who lied to caucus goers telling them falsely that Carson was dropping out of the race.

Where did Carson call Cruz a sleazebag?
Old     (pesos)      Join Date: Oct 2001 Location: Texas       02-03-2016, 1:34 PM Reply
He accused Cruz of lying to caucus groups saying that Carson was dropping out to trick them to changing their vote to him so it wasn't "wasted." You're right - I doubt Carson would say "sleazebag" - he'll leave that to the Donald...

Cruz is an intelligent man who has found his calling by creating fake causes to rally up the knuckle draggers. Lack of adherence to the Constitution has no bearing on the problems this nation faces.

The Constitution is everything about what faces this nation. It is the laws that are being passed that break down our Constitution in the name of replacing American sovereignty with UN friendly treaties.

Calling people you disagree with knuckle draggers is exactly what is wrong with this country.

Funny Wes trying to pass of CNN and MSNBC articles to try and cut down a person of a party that he (or they) would never vote for.

Is the Cruz issue like the Hillary issue where a supposed coin flip settled who won? All talk and mud slinging?

I'm still not sure what constitutionalist means. Can someone please give an example of something that's "anti-constitutionalist"?

Citizens United... is that consistent or inconsistent with constitutionalism?

"Calling people you disagree with knuckle draggers is exactly what is wrong with this country. "

Holy crap! I can save this country just by not calling people knuckle draggers. Apparently even the Constitution is second to the power I wield.

Nice try John. Acting like an opinion does not have any validity by marginalizing a group by making a less than human characterization about them. People get shot on a daily basis in democrat controlled cities for less. It is called respect. You can not have any civil discourse when you try and trigger the other side to fight.

Shawndoggy. not sure what you are wanting? Are you simply passive aggressive or you really don't know? If you do know, then what discussion are you wanting out of this?
