Just joined the forum and looking for some solid advice/perspective on purchasing a used wakeboard/wakesurf boat. Narrowed it down to four boats in my area (Montreal, Canada) that cover the low/mid/high end of my price range . All are equipped with integrated ballast, speed control, and most of the bells & whistles you'd expect. A 2004 Malibu Wakesetter 23 XTI (asking $33K), a 2007 Moomba Outback V (asking $35K), 2007 Tige RZ2 ($43K), and a 2004 Mastercraft Xstar ($39K). Prices are in Canadian dollars. The Moomba has 330 hours, the others between 500 - 600 hours. All show some wear and tear on the upholstery but otherwise seem to be in decent shape with maintenance records. The Xstar has had some small repair to the hull near the rudder. Trailers included. Thanks for any help you can give.

What is your main objective? Wakeboard, surf, or ski?

Personally I would say the Tige. The wakeboard wake can get pretty good and the boat will surf well if you plan on doing that. The Malibu is a direct drive and I don't think ever had that great of a resale due to the weird lay out it has. Second would be the Xstar. As long as the boat doesn't look beat up I wouldn't worry about the hours too much.

What is your main objective? Wakeboard, surf, or ski? The xti is a wake/ski boat. I would mark that off my list quickly. It is a great boat for its purpose though. Any other boats that you might be interested in? Tige looked best to me then the xstar.

Interested in a mix of both wake and surf. Can't remember the last time I skied. Right now I'm leaning towards the Xstar as I'm sure it can be negotiated down a bit. Love both the Tige and MC. Will ride the Moomba this weekend.

Good luck in your search. The x-star for that year is a great boat. If you have the money, redo the interior and enjoy. The condition of the interior is a direct indicator to how the boat was treated. Sun damage is the main indicator of neglect.

I appreciate your help. I did love the Xstar and it came with a nice marine GPS, great sound system, and matching MC trailer. Can't wait for next Spring!

Like others have stated priority and time spent doing Surfing and wakeboarding will make a huge impact.

If your surf is only around 20% you can't argue with the X star. But it is awful at surfing. Especially on the goofy side. If you ride goofy drop the notion of an XStar for surfing.

The Tige in this batch wins IMO . Good surf , good wake and a heck of a boat.

The moomba just isn't up to the caliber of the other boats you listed. If it were a Moomba LSV I'd say give it a go, but it's only 20ft and some change being an outback V.

The XtI is a great boat. Works for a few people, but the interior layout of you expect to get serious about boarding and surfing will have you leaving sacs all over the place.

Thanks for the feedback. Most of the family rides goofy, so will keep that in mind for sure.
