I am looking to replace my Mmatts amp which is supposed to make 150-160 watts per channel at 4 ohms. I am looking for something closer to 200 at 4ohm or a 2 channel 4-500 at 2 ohm.

I have seen the Boston Acoustic gt-28 and that amp interest me some, any opinions/suggestions?

Thanks,
John

You looking to drive 2 channels, or one?

The boston is a great amp, love that entire GT line...if you're looking to drive 2ch, the JL 300/2 is a heavily underrated 150w/channel of really solid clean power, or if just one, you can do the 500/1...both should be about the same budget range or cheaper than that Boston iirc.

Can't go wrong with the GT line though man, sweet amps! Got a GT50 running my entire interior.

John- GT28 is awesome....The 300/2 is a good amp as well, but not as well suited for boat use as a Boston GT amp because of it's HIGHLY regulated power supply (JL calls it RIPS). But your post is a little confusing. What Mmats amp are you replacing and what speakers are you driving? If you decide to do a GT28 I may have one for sale.

Cheers
Scott

Ewing -
The GT-28 is an excellent amp. It is very dynamic and the adjustability with Q-Tunes does wonders if our are using it for highs. I have yet to see one thermal. They are a bit on the long side but the way the heat sink is designed and the way the fan is positioned you can mount it any way you want. I have (4) GT series amps mounted upside down in my headliner (This is one of the VERY few amps you can do this with). You will not be disappointed.

Other options are the JL 300/2v2 (less power), Arc Audio (GT-28 falls between the SE2150 and the SE2300), Zapco (More $$), US Amps (Same power but not very clean)

What will the GT-28 be running?

Scott replacing my Mmatts SQ4150 that powered my tower speakers. The Mmatts I have now has never had an issue just want to make sure before I replace it.

John- What are you going to be running with this amp? My understanding is that the SQ4150 is a beast, how do you have it configured?

Guys what is you opinion on the mmats?? I have a chance to get their amps at dealers cost. I have always been a kicker person. I was looking at the big class D amps.

thanks
Shawn

I ran 4 Pro80's last year, but trying something new and the new speakers aren't as efficient. I will need a good 200watts per speaker to get the full potential out of the new speakers.

Shawn the Mmatts is a more efficient amp than Kicker and imo are a better amp.

ewing, you probably won't notice that much of a difference in power from 160 to 200 watts. That mmats amp is a very solid amp and is probably slightly underated.

Are you going to sell it? How much you looking to get for it?

I am really surprised that no one has mentioned the Zapco refrence 1000.4 or a Precision Power PCX 4125. I would put either one of these up against any 1000 watt a/b amp.

These is a reason both these models are over 5 years old and people still search for them on the car audio forums constantly. Plus...you can get them repaired pretty cheap if they break.

murphy, both those amps are good , but one of the main reasons they are so sought after is it's hard to find a 4 chanel amp with that much power...not alot of companys make an amp that big.
