i don't mean to sound like a tool... but with the injuries i have sustained (both torn ACLs, pulled shoulders, and a broken foot), i am wondering if any riders maybe take a yoga class on the side to help stay limber for wakeboarding. currently, i go to cross fit and i do some moderate lifting to stay in shape but has anyone on here ever done yoga to help their wakeboarding?

Yoga is all about strengthening the core are increasing your flexibility, both good things for wakeboarding. I've started to get more and more into it and definitely notice a difference.

I'll qualify this by saying I am not in the medical profession nor do I have any experience with athletic training. However, I do practice yoga... primarily power yoga. I personally feel like it is the best cross training activity for boardsports. I feel much more comfortable and confident on any board if I am practicing yoga consistently. As far as preventing injury... I can't really say...I haven't had any major injuries due to boardsports since I began practicing yoga, but I don't get on a board as much as I used to. Yoga definitely improves your strength and flexibility which I would think reduces risk of injury.

Yoga is awesome. It's also balance, and Isometric contractions (holds) which is a lot tougher than the Concentric and Ecentric moves we normally do in the gym. Yoga will also help you chase out the muscle imbalances and relative flexibility. Both things that will cause injury.

tried it for the first time tonight. They offer classes at the gym I belong to. Definitely tough and harder than it looks.

Yoga and pilates are GREAT for wakeboarding! Perhaps better than strength training. I've personally noticed a difference in my flexibilty, balance, and core strength since starting 3 times a week 3 months ago. It improved my posture during riding as well as strength and stability when taking hard landings. I'd recommend it to everyone!
