Is anyone running these on their tower or similar 6.5's? If so, how many, what size amps, and how do they sound while boarding?

I have four of them on my tower - They sound great sitting around in a cove but just like most non-hlcd speakers you can barely hear them while boarding.

Chris,

I have six on my tower (see profile pic). I also have them inside the boat. They sound great in the boat but to be completely honest, hard to hear from 75' back while riding. Don't remember how many amps I have pushing them but I can look it up when I get home tonight. I have one amp just for them. I spent a decent amount of money (for me) on this set up but would do it differently next time. I explored Wetsounds which sounded awesome but really didn't like the way they looked installed (too big for my tower/boat set up). So, I went this way and will live with it for now. It's OK, just not great.

I had four of the DB651's on my tower plus four in the boat.

+2 as mentioned above. Sound great when beached or floating but once you were outside the wake they were tough to hear.

Anyone that heard them (that wasn't familiar with HLCD's) thought they were really loud. But they were never behind the boat wakeboarding. If you were on shore you could probably "hear" them a couple hundred yards away but they weren't very audible.

Outside the wake with the wind I couldn't hear them well at all, the kids said they could...

I had a Cadence SQA-4 driving the tower speakers - so they had 60 watts each.

I upgraded to HLCD's and I have no problem hearing them now but I also upgraded the amp.

I have them as my boat speakers right now with only about 45watts going to them. Them sound decent. I had four on my old tower with about 75watts going to them. They sounded fine but nothing like HLCD's
