Does anyone have any pictures of a garage door frame hinged to widen the opening to allow access of a wider trailer/ boat? Ive seen pics before, but want to forward to someone and cannot find.

Sounds like you are talking about hinging the jambs for the garage door. I have never seen this on any house due to the fact that the sides of your house are structural or load bearing 99.9% of the time. This wall is load bearing behind the frame "jamb" are multiple studs known as jack and king studs that hold up a large header above the door. More than likely a 2x12 header runs across the top of the opening. Cutting or notching any of these parts without restructuring the wall to carry the load could compromise any structure above the door (i.e. roof or 2nd floor. If you live in California then the front wall of newer homes is known as a strong wall and you can’t touch it in any way without an engineer. The other problem is the jambs are what the tracks or hinges for your door are attached to.
