Quick question. I have a 1988 Prostar 190 with the original cover. Well, after 16 years the cover has become very porous and after it rains the entire inside of my boat is drenched even with the cover on. Is there anything that I can spray on the cover so that it will repel the water and not just let it soak through? Thanks, Ty.

Wal-Mart sells a product called Camp Dry for tents, sleeping bags, boots, etc. Label says its for anything canvas or leather. I use it on workboots & it does great.Should be in camping section in an aresol can. If you use, let me know how it works.

I use Heavy Duty Scotch Guard - also sold at Walmart. It works great and only took about 5 cans for the boat cover. They suggest two light coats rather than one heavy coat.

Why not buy a new cover?

That is definitely a possibility, but I have spent so much money on all of the other updates that I have made and I don't really feel like spending the money or replacing the factory cover just yet. Thanks for all of the input. Ty.

There is a product called Nik Wax that does a fantastic job of resealing a cover yet still allows it to breathe. I took mine to the industrial washing machine in a laundramat. It takes two bottles of roughly 10 ozs each.

A friend of mine told me this great expression...

... never polish a turd.

Thats my concern with spraying $40 worth of chemicals on a 16 year old leaky cover.
