If only I could wake up to this view more than once a year. If you can't tell, that is a layer of fog in the valley.

Me too... Awesome shot Bakes!

What'd you use to catapult the boy for that shot?

Thanks...My friend was kind of doing the throw the kid in the air thing so I just had him move for better lighting and better clouds then sat down beside him and took a bunch of pics.

Nice Walt, did you pull that down in the cam or with PS? Or is that an HDR?

Great shots guys! I just tried to take some of the moon but my battery died. Oh well.

Bakes, D700 huh? how you like that baby? You keep your other body for your DX lenses?
Old     (bakes5)      Join Date: Aug 2006       08-17-2008, 11:22 PM Reply
The D700 is very, very nice. High ISO noise is very minimal. That sunset was taken at ISO 500 which would have had a lot of noise with my D200.

Unfortunately I had to sell a few things to get the D700. For the body I sold a sweet rifle, my welder and the D200. For the 24-70 lens I sold my 17-55 and my 10.5. It is worth it though in my opinion.

Kinda bummed that the only houseboating I've done this summer has been at Lake Berryessa. Not because it's a bad lake or anything, but because it isn't far enough away from all the city lights. Oh well...

20 mins @ f5, ISO 100

So I was pretty convinced that my camera was broken and wouldn't recognize my fisheye lens. (It would read all my nikon lenses. No off brands though.) Thinking that I was doomed I figured that I would try to take it in to see what was wrong. At the repair shop the guy looked at it and within a matter of seconds had it back up and running. It turns out a spring had corroded away inside and wouldn't attach to the lenses it required.

Feeling pretty happy about having my lens back up and running I decided to swing by the 3rd Lair Skate Park on my way home. Luckily there were some guys there willing to skate as I took photos. It has been a while since I have shot skating and it was quite refreshing. I am definitely going to have to do that more often.

I like the skate shots...were they done with the 10.5? They don't look too fishy.

I sold my 10.5 and got a 16mm. It just does not have the sharpness my 10.5 did....I wish they would make a new AFS one
Old     (wakesurf12)      Join Date: Jun 2003       08-21-2008, 6:58 AM Reply
It's a 15mm Sigma. That is why it isn't very fishy. Another reason I was asking if you had sold your 10.5 yet. Was looking to maybe pick one up. haha!

I think I am going to hold onto it until I buy a D700 or D3, which will hopefully be sometime soon. (Maybe)

Here are a couple with the 10.5 that I borrowed from the dude in the photo above.

These two are from this past season. First one is a nose press through the kink and then the second is a Nose press up frontside 360 off. The bottom photo is 2 seasons old but I still like it.

I know very little on how to take 'good' photos, but I'm trying to learn.
This is from Loon Mountain last season.

Monte...nice shot. Eliminate the distractions in the upper right, lower right and lower left corners and compose so that there isn't a ski lift coming out of his nose. Otherwise, great shot

Ambient light was from a 400 watt metal halide light (powered by a Honda i2000 generator) I brought along. I had a second light but I couldn't get it fired up. Dragging all the crap down the beach just about killed me.

Thanks for the wobble light hook up Gary.

Thanks Randy, I recently found out I'm going to be a dad in January, so have started trying to shoot some 'baby room' shots. As I was walking around a pond trying to get some good dragonfly pics, I almost stepped backwards into the spider's web. Stinking garden spider was the size of my fist...'bout shizzat my shorts.
