It is a borderline engine. I f you aren't going to have 10 or more people in it with extra ballast it will get the job done. The best engine is the LY6. Awesome performance.

The X45 is a big boat but I don't have any experience with it. I know that a lot of people recommend a bigger engine for the X-Star so I would assume that a bigger engine is a must. I don't know though. Get a low pitch prop.

Get the LY6! I got my X-45 about 6 weeks ago and the first week I had it we loaded it with 8-10 people and I was amazed. Full ballast, loaded with gas it jumps out of the hole. Seems to do fairly well on gas cause you don't have to dog it. It is a pretty heavy boat and it performs really well with the 400 hp.

DO NOT GET THE MCX. You will be dissapointed! I have been in one with the MCX and it was a slug.

Big boat + small engine = poor performance

I would go with the L18 or the LY6. Our X-Star has the L18 and we love it. The guys here at Inland Northwest Mastercraft tell me that they only put the L18 and LY6 is the X-Star and larger boats.
