LEAD???? Where to get in Sacramento, Ca.????

I need Lead! I have tried finding it everywhere and can not find it anywhere. Can anyone help? Where to find perferably Sacramento or surrounding areas.

go to your local tire store. they will have a ton (maybe more). just ask the manager.

Once you get it you'll have to bag it so it doesnt get nasties all over your boat.

if you are in sac try some of the racecar shops they sell lead bars anywhere from 10 to 50 pounds

Get some small tool bags from Home Depot for $6 each, fill with tire weights (free). Each bag holds approx 65-70 lbs. 420 lbs. for $36!

i heard you can melt the lead down in a baking pan....that sounds better than loose lead in a bag.. is this true?
i have talked to a few tire stores and they have a deal with Interstate Battery and they take ALL the lead.

I'd contact interstate battery. go to the source.

If you put lead tire weights in tool bags...put the lead into plastic bags first (thick plastic bags)...then they wont get wet and get red/orange goo all over the place.

If you get lead blocks...go to home depot and get the stuff thats like paint, but hardens to a rubber (i think its for coating tools, etc). this will seal the lead and not get red/orange all over your boad from rust.

its called plasti-dip and is plastisol that you can use to coat stuff, like tools as wakeviolater said.

check plastidip.com they have spray on form as well as dip/paint on form

Be careful melting lead down on your own. Pretty toxic stuff. I have PVC pipes filled with lead weights that work pretty well.

and the grease will pop molten crap all over you too. Do this where there is 0 chance of catching anything on fire too.

i used to dig a small trench in the dirt about 12 inches long by 3 or 4 inches wide. then took the lead and used an old pot to melt it on a camping stove. once melted pour it into your trench and wait a while till its nice and cool. then you can put two of them together and put it in pvc and cap the ends. done deal.

i got all my lead from tire stores. just gotta find the low end ones. the bigger ones sell it to other companies but usually the trashy dirty ones have a ton of it.

I believe fishing shops like Fisherman's Warehouse (off Folsom Blvd?) sells them in blocks for making lures and jigs. I could be wrong but worth a call.
