Yes, Ty they are 16s on 285/75/16 Nitto's on the truck in the picture. I actually like the look of the 16 or 17 inch wheel, makes the tire look a bit meatier.

I love the black/machined wheel on the white truck.

Is this your new ride bb12?? If it came with those nice rims you are stoked!! Nitto's get very good reviews as well, although I will personally only buy American tires if I can help it, but that is only my preference, get what is best for your $$.

I too like the black rims, I have 18" rims on my F250 with the same size tire. I like more rubber as well. I have stock Ford Rims, which are nice, but if I ever wanna go bigger and lift the truck a tad, then I need new rims. I would probably go Pro-Comp everything (Rims & Rubber).

I like the Nitto's because they are about $50 cheaper than the BFG All Terrains. Pro Comp makes some sweet rims and tires as well.

I'd say that you have about the ideal tire to wheel size ratio for that truck. No 20" wheels for me either, I'll stick with 285 or 295/70/17.

I'm considering going from BFG A/T TA KO 285/70/17 to a Nitto Terra Grappler 295/70/17 but can't decide. I'm worried about the Nitto's softer compound wearing out too fast but then a set does you save you $200.

What kind of truck do you have? I am currently running 265/75/16 BFG A/T KOs on stock rims and they are just too small for me ...They ride nice for an AT, I just like the price difference of the Nitto Terra Grappler.

I have read great things about the Nitto and some not so great things. One thing is for sure, they are very popular either way, and like you said quite a bit cheaper!

I have a silver 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Quadcab, 4x4, Laramie trim, with 3.93 LSD and 17" wheels.

Same here as far as the Nitto, heard great things but the concenus seems to be they are softer and wear out faster as a result. I know the load rating is as good as the BFG and I've heard they're quiet and ride well. I don't think they make a BFG A/T TA/KO in 295/70/17. They make it in 285 and 305 and Nitto makes a 295 but not a 285 Terra Grappler.

I am running the 285 75 R/16 TA KO's on my Yukon. No rub. Also heard good things about the Nitto's. Everyone whom I know that has them loves them. Thought about doing them, but I use most of my tires on the highway. Just like the look of the At's and also get some good amounts of snow. Just thought the nitto's would war a bit faster. I went with the BFG due to the fact that they were in stock and I needed tires ASAP as I had damaged sidewall after a blowout so couldn't wait. I used to be a Toyo guy but will never go back after these.

You know for every opinion I find on one of these tires over the other, I find another one saying the exact opposite. The only trends I see are that the Nitto won't last as long and it seems the BFG get great traction but like to throw gravel.

I will say this, it will cost you less to try the Nitto than the Toyo or BFG. Swatguy, did you have the Toyo Open Counrtry? If so, what did you not like about them?

I found a good deal on some Cooper tires. They came out in June to compete with the Nitto.20" rim and 31" tires. After lifting the truck I wil go with the same tires only 35s. Truck is an 07 Titan LE.

My experience, the BFG's did pick up and throw gravel more than any other tire I've owned, and it seemed like balancing was needed fairly often.
The Nitto's when new were nice, but wore rapidly, and at about 20,000 mi. became anoingly NOISY, so got rid of those.
I'm running Bridgestone Dueler A/T's now with about 15,000mi. and so far, hardly show any wear, don't throw gravel, and ride smooth.
But the BEST tire I've had was the Michelin LTX M/S, not as agressive a tread design , but QUIET, smooth and lasted forever!
I know the BFG's have the "cool" factor ( 80% of the trucks in my kids' high school parking lot has 'em)
Oh yeah,265-75/16 10 ply 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban that sees Baja twice a month...
I'm a black wheel guy too, American Racing "Mojave" Teflon, best wheels I've ever owned, and I've had Welds and Centerlines and all that $#!t

I used to run the Open Country's on all my prior Yukons and Avalanche. Thought they were pretty smooth with decent traction. What my dealer always recommended as well. The BFg's though are much better on the highway and give me a much smoother ride in the pothole ridden,train track city. They also seem to give me a little more bite in the rain than the Toyo's did. Snow I would say about the same. I can't give any info on wear was I haven't had the tire's long enough. I think the sidewalls on the BFG's are a little more reinforced and thats what gives them the smoothness. Could be wrong. Just fekt like my truck and steering wheel vibrated much more with the Toyo's on there over the railroad tracks and the potholes

I will agree though that they do pick up stones and gravel like crazy. My cottage has stone back country roads as well as a stone driveway. My in-laws also live in the country and the tires wing stones like crazy. Never was a problem with the Toyo's. Don't chip my paint up too much as I have flares and mud flaps, but if I didn't the paint would def be toast.

I bought the BFG's and they definitely chuck rocks, scares me sometimes when they hit the wheel well. They are good tires though and seem to do everything good and wear nicely as long as you keep them inflated properly. I run the 285's and they have nice pavement traction and are smooth on the highway for an aggressive tire.

Cooper make some very nice tires as well, and makes the Pro Comps and Mickey Thompsons, all in the USA.

Good opinions on tires, keep'em coming!

Chad, just so you know they do make a 285 Nitto Terra Grappler.

Take a look at the Pirelli Scorpion ATR. I have a set on my truck and they have been great so far. The price is also reasonable.

I love these AR teflon rims. Perfect winter rim!
