I open final cut and then open finder and drag video files into final cut and some of the videos work and some dont. I dont know why that happens. instead of showing the first part of the clip it says "media offline". does any one know how to fix this.

Have you tried using the import command from the file pulldown menu?

You need to store the video files somewhere on the computer first. If you dropped them in off a flash drive but didn't copy them to computer somewhere they won't play. Final cut doesn't make a copy of the video for each project it uses pointers that identify the location of the video to play back. Also some file types don't work in FC express.... I have no luck with MP4's and non full res. video formats. FCpro handles more types better.... I use FCPro and teach students with FC Express....

Your profile says that you're 399 yrs old, so you could request a senior citizen discount.. Otherwise if you're a student then check out the EDU store: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/education_routing?mco=MTIxODk0Nw

$699.00 is probably the cheapest.....i wouldn't recommend buying it for home projects, FCP express should be just fine. But thats my two cents.

You can always convert footage that isn't recognized by FCE...never used it so i would know.

If the hg40 is a hard drive camera or a DVD cam you probably won't be able to do anything without the software that came with the camera. You would need to capture the footage into the software from the camera then export it as a quicktime. Then you can use it...

I would assume that with an Apple you "wish it to be" and it will automatically download it and install..?

All robotic PC humor aside. I think your can only get FCP bundled with the studio.. If you click on the "buy" button on the following page it take you to FCS2 page.

Hopefully that helps.
