Got my fingers Crossed for a MN stop but it look doubtful.
Old     (tuneman)      Join Date: Mar 2002       11-13-2008, 2:15 PM Reply
Maybe if they actually promoted it in Minnesota, it wouldn't look so doubtful. I don't know if it was like that everywhere else, but there was barely any promotion of the event last year.
Old     (dadthedriver)      Join Date: Jul 2004       11-13-2008, 2:28 PM Reply
There is hardly any promotions at the stops. Tony was saying the other day he doesn't know why they don't send free tickets and flyers out to all the JR high and High schools in the area. I would think that would be the audience they want to reach.

Tuneman, they rotate some of the Stops MPLS is one of them, I believe that this year they will be rotating us out.

Andy they move them about every 3 years and I think last year was your 3rd year. I love the MN. stop for the city, people, night life, but I have to say it is the worst viewing site of all the stops. That said I hope it comes back so we can go hang with your crew again next year.

I think they need to make a stop up in Toronto...

We have Wakestock... but another event would only be better!

Phoenix!! Thick, salty water, red hot melting asphalt and not a blade of grass. Such a harsh site.
Oh, and you have to pay to park your car.

Sorry people of Phoenix

Nothing like butter all day long.... Not to mention about 10 min ferry ride to hundreds of food establishments, bars and nightclubs!

http://www.wakestock.com/images/site/fullview_full.jpg

"Long Pond offers a fully protected, private water course with a perfect width and length for wakeboarding. The shoreline on both sides of the course is sloped to minimize wake rebound. The water depth is deep enough down the middle to allow full size wakes, but with a shallow, hard sand bottom close to shore, which perfect for building rails. Best of all, for spectators, the Long Pond site provides unobstructed viewing for the entire length of the course and has a grandstand already in place.

Long Pond was specifically designed as a watersports course and has a long history of hosting international water skiing and rowing events, including the World Water Skiing Championships back in the day."

From the Midwest, but I have to agree that the Minneapolis stop is completely awful from a spectator's viewpoint. It is so difficult to find a position where you can even see half of someones run. However, found a Thai restaurant with food so hot it made my eyes water!

Yeah??

Went there for the Malibu Open. Wind howled for most of the time. Lake is too big.

I havent seen the official lineup yet but I have heard that MN is out for this year which bums me out but we had a good run.

Hopefully we'll get the stop again in the near future. As always anyone with a better spot to hold the contest at is encouraged to speak up, even if it's not for the pro tour speak up or if anyone has an in with the city of mpls get a permit for Calhoun, that would be the money spot!
Old     (ironj32)      Join Date: Jan 2007       11-17-2008, 12:13 PM Reply
corey, how deep is calhoun?
Old     (wakesurf12)      Join Date: Jun 2003       11-17-2008, 12:53 PM Reply
Calhoun has a max depth of 82ft. Harriet is 87. That seems rather dep to me. Harriet would be sick! Its right out my front door haha!
Old     (snowboardcorey)      Join Date: Jan 2004       11-17-2008, 2:34 PM Reply
I wouldnt have guessed that deep but I think Island is only about 11 feet deep max. Back in the day the Bud Pro Waterski Tour was on Calhoun, to many tree hugging hippies have pretty much ruined that idea though.

I think we may try to get some sort of winch jam going on Calhoun, we've talked about it a little. Problem is we are so busy when we should be planning that it always gets back burnered.
Old     (justinlkgb)      Join Date: Jun 2008       11-17-2008, 2:52 PM Reply
How about moving out of the city limits?

I would guess that most people interested are not in the city anyway, probably the burbs.

Of course I'm all for it so I wouldn't have to drive 1.5hrs to stand behind some dudes big fat head trying to catch a glimpse.

And also how many of you have to wait to hit a double up? There has to be a better spot than Island Lake!

Elizabethtown, Kentucky July 18-19 Stop #5
It will be an awesome venue on a private lake, easy access from I-65, lots of parking on site, About 40 minutes south of SDF Louisville Airport, motels close by, Could be some of the best water conditions for the Pro Tour.
We have had several INT, NWL, and one USA Nats at the site the past 3 years. Only Tournaments have been allowed on the lake, no free riding ever.

B-Hutt will be happy! As will be all the riders. This lake was built to be the water supply for the city of elizabethtown: not any more. No Motorboats are allowed on this lake. I have been to 7 wake tournaments on this lake and have hardly seen a ripple. If you are in the midwest and want to see the pros ride at the top of their game, this is the one.

I just wish they would do a stop at Castaic, and do the lower lake. great venue. a crap load of private lakes within an hours drive of there for everyone to get tons of practice in the week prior. lots of hotel rooms, bars, moto-x tracks around the area. right off of I-5. probably get a good amount of people from the so-cal, central-cal, and perhaps even nor-cal folks to come out and support it.
Old     (seth)      Join Date: Sep 2002       12-10-2008, 5:46 PM Reply
Yeah train second that!!! Castaic lower lake is a perfect venue for the PWT. Now that I think about it, there isnt even a stop in CA. How can that be?

Chris I heard financially Wake Games is up in the air but rumor is it will not be that weekend in April. Also that is the date of Board Up. But just grapevine nothing concrete

This is what I was told. The wake games is at OWC,not 100% on the dates. Also the tour was practically finalized until "a wrench got thrown into it" so they are reworking it. The Knoxville stop is also happening.

about 80 boat owners who showed up with their boats and friends for the atl stop are gonna be pissed if we get left out in 09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not to mention the crowded beach. The pro tour does no promoting so its all word of mouth and us fans dragging everyone we know out!!!!!
had to be the largest crowd all year. With it comes some knuckleheads like the idiots in the 50 foot cruisers inside the riding boundray. but partially not their fault because the winds were really high and everyone was getting blown into the course.
Old     (xistential)      Join Date: Jul 2007       12-14-2008, 12:54 PM Reply
Its's unfortunate. It was one of the best venues with the worst conditions of the whole tour.
