Just wondering if it would be better to buy:
1. the cheap "ziplock bag" type housing
or
2. Buy a olympus 770 waterproof point and shoot

I wont be doing a lot of water shooting but it will be nice just to have

any opinions?

I was looking at buying a cheap waterproof "ziplock bag" type housing for my XTI. I found this http://www.outdoorpremiergear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=140&products_id=141

Has anyone tried this product?

I've seen people use the baggies, and they might work just fine, but I would be super nervous to use them. I have seen/heard of them leaking/flooding on several different occasions. If you know you won't be submerging the camera than the baggies would prolly be fine but just speaking for me personally you couldn't pay me to put my camera in one and submerge it. I am pretty paranoid about that stuff though so take it with a grain of salt.

On the flip side of the coin, if you don't mind shooting film Hero has a killer little 35mm film camera with a housing that is only $25 and it comes with a killer little wrist strap that makes it super convenient. I bought one and I think I like it better than my 770. Oh course, you can always peruze arround e-bay and look for a housing specific to the camera. Keep in mind getting into a housing company is the same as getting into a camera company, they are typically pretty expensive.

I was just talking to the owner of the Outdoor Premier Gear site about the waterproof housing I linked above. She was just in Utah at a vendor conference where she got to meet the owners and test the product.http://www.outdoorpremiergear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=140&products_id=141

She said that the product was a lot denser than she thought it would be, and that it did a great job of keeping things dry. After talking to her for about a half-hour, I do not think I will have a problem throwing my XTI in it.

Also, while I was on the phone, she told me a little bit about her site. "The site is devoted to finding and promoting new and innovative outdoor products." Kind of a different idea for a website.

She gave me the code: OPGrookie

It is worth 15% off on my first purchase. She said I could give it out and that it would work for anyone.

Steeze, that is awesome that you are getting a Jim Bailey housing. I have heard that those things are amazing.
