Post your pics of the 2006 X-2 looking for a unique color scheme. We are ordering one and wanted some ideas. was thinking all black but I want some other ideas. Also how much additional weight and where are you adding it.

The best x2 I have ridden took stock ballast, added the fly high's to the vdrive compartments plus 21 pop bags (800ish pounds) up front.

The x2 NEEDS the extra weight, but with it gives a nice kick and a lot of float time.

I love that wake when properly slammed.

mike is the wake rideable without weight(extra other than factory)? We are going from an Xstar to an X2 does the X2 have the tanks like the xstar or are they bags?

Someone else will chime in with specifics, but I will tell you the wake is soft without the extra weight.

However, I also feel that the xstar wake is soft without a lot of extra weight.

Most outlaw riders disagree with me, but I strongly prefer the x2 wake to the xstar.

We found the wake to be poor with and without extra weight. We had one completely slammed for a comp and the outlaw riders all but refused to ride it.

To each his own I guess, I loved it once you got over 2k in it.....

Not as much as a slammed x1, but way more than an xstar.

Here's my $.02 but a little background first......I owned a '02 XStar (X1) and just recently purchased an '06 X2.

In my X1 we would run 550# on each side of the engine, the stock center KGB sack (350#), a 600# sac across the front seats and 220# of lead in the nose. If there was more then 4 people in the boat I'd normally let a little weight out of the rear sacs.

Upload

In my X2 I'm running stock ballast (850# I think), around 400# on each side of the motor, and 600# in the walkthrough.

Upload

From what I've experienced so far the X2 wake is not nearly the size of the X1 with around the same amount of weight. The X1 wake would grow in size the more weight you added, while the X2 seems to remain fairly constant. You definitely need to add weight on top of the stock 3-KGB on the X2.

The advantage that the X2 wake has is that it is extremely hard and holds its shape better then almost any wake I've hit other then maybe a heavily loaded 210. The wake has a very smooth transition like a 22SSV with a nice vert lip at the top like my X1. The wake is not effected by people moving around in the boat nearly as much as my X1 was.

The interesting thing my crew has discovered is that if you ride at 80' around 24.5 - 25mph the wake has the best shape and you can really charge it and get great pop, easily as good as my X1. I never rode my X1 more then 70' at 24.2mph.

The big thing to know is that this wake is not a "lazy cut" wake like say a 210 or X1.....you have to edge properly all the way through the wake instead of letting the boat pull you back in and the wake do the work.

I guess the only negative I can come up with right now is that the prop needs to be changed. I've got the stock 13x17 and with the boat fully loaded it's very slow out of the hole and needs to be changed to the 14x14.7.

Here's a pic of the boat.

jarrod - for the comp you may not have had it weighted correctly. While experimenting with mine, I found some weight configurations made the wake horrible, but when done correctly the wake is my favorite one. Plenty of outlaw riders in our area agree with me. So don't count it out yet - maybe it wasn't weighted right.

Zack, how do you like the transition from your old boat to your new one????

The 1st wake pic looks a lot better, the 2nd one doesn't seem like it has a defined lip like the 1st.Could be just the pic?!
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       08-02-2006, 12:03 PM Reply
You could be right Andrew, but we had a team of guys working on it for a while. They tried several weighting methods.

I think Zack pretty much covered it.

Ed.....the first pic was the wake on my old X1 and the second pic is the wake on my new X2......both weighted out as I described above.

I actually like the transition on the new one better as its much easier on the knees/body. It provides for very smooth landings as well.

This wake is honestly very very deceiving. I know you read a lot about wakes and how "the pic doesn't do it justice" which is very true in this case. I can say even standing next to it on a board at speed it APPEARS to be very small. When you hit it though it provides every bit as good of pop as my old X1.

We ride on pretty much all the major boats (210, X1, VLX, SSV) and everyone has the same reaction when they both see and hit the wake. It appears very small compared to say a 210 with 2000# in it but provides great pop when you edge properly.

I dont know a single MC fan that would say the x2 is a better wake than the x1, which is pretty well established as being the wake (okay CC and BU guys one of the wakes) to have.

I just personally prefer the x2 to the xstar, and again, when weighted properly, its one of my fav's.
Old     (dlamont)      Join Date: Apr 2003       08-02-2006, 1:36 PM Reply
I would agree that the X1 has a better wakeboard wake stock over the X2. Although once sacked up the X2 wake really gets good. The best part about the X2 is that it does everything well. Stock ballast it has a great wakeskate wake. Stock ballast with extra it has a great wakeboard wake. And the surf wake is the best I have seen for a 20ft boat.
Jim T if you are ordering one there is also the new "switch" graphics that looks pretty good. Also get the MCX, it is a rocket with that motor.
Old     (wakeslife)      Join Date: Jul 2005       08-02-2006, 2:00 PM Reply
To each their own about the wakes, I personally haven't ridden behind the new X2.

Jim - Get some colors that will stand out, like mostly black with a little bit of yellow or better yet, black and orange .
Also get the switch graphics so someone doesnt't think the boat is an 06. That'd be horrible

The big thing to know is that this wake is not a "lazy cut" wake

That makes it sound like the wake isn't very good.

Disclaimer: I've never ridden behind one, but I do think it's one of the best looking boats on the water, today. I like the yellow and blue one }on the MC website.

Lucky, I wouldn't say that makes the wake sound "bad". All boats with a long transition take a little more skill/technique to dial in the pop. That's largely why so many people hate the new X-Star wake. Malibu wakes require a little more focus on edge hold and extending at the proper time as well. Boats like the X-1 and SAN will ALWAYS be popular because literally anyone--regardless of ability--can get decent pop just by hitting the wake with a little speed. In my opinion, you can get as high or higher as you ever can behind a 210 with an equally-sized, longer-transitioned wake, but you need to know what you're doing. Pros have been gravitating to the longer, rampier wakes because, with their ability, they can get just as much pop, but with smoother take-offs, softer landings, and the ability to ride much longer rope lengths.

well put Jeff, I agree.....and will be the first to admit my dislike of the xstar wake comes from what you described.

I rode an 06 xstar last night with extra ballast and 13 peeps in it, liked it a lot more than in the past.

I imagine if I rode an xstar daily it would be my wake of choice, but right now I just struggle with it coming from other boats.

Mike, no doubt. The first time I hit an X-Star wake I was like "what the hell, wasn't there supposed to be a wake there?". Now, after my technique has improved and I've logged in a couple more sets behind it, I'm not sure there's a wake I like more than a sacked-out (okay, really sacked-out) X-Star.

I was just thinking about boat colors yesterday. Wouldn't it would be cool to have an all white boat like the X Star in my profile pic and have all the metal (tower, cleats, windshield etc.) powdercoated white. I just think that would look awesome.

i have had a 02 X Star, 04 X Star and now a 06 X2.

we have about 90 hours on our X2 and we have weighted it differently when we first got it to see what works best.

with the stock tanks which are 600# plus and then 2 350# sacs in the rear compartments plus a bow integrated sac and 140# in lead has worked awesome and creates and great wake. this ratio is perfect but if you have to much weight in the back no matter how much weight you have in the boat it wont be bigger than the wake with stock weight. many people are testing the X2 with to much rear weight which is why they think the wake is bad.

more weight is awesome but it will be useless unless it is in the right place.

the X1 and x2 have very similar size wakes but just different shapes with the same weight.

Sean.......thanks for the comments. I've been thinking about that color scheme for 2+ years now and I think it came out great.

Lucky....just because I said it's not a "lazy cut" wake doesn't mean it's not any good. I just know that I can let a 210's or even X1's wake do the work for me w/o proper technique and I'll still get booted. I think those wakes because of that mask some bad riding habits, including a few I have.

The X2, or even XStar wake, requires that you edge properly through the top of the wake and when you do you're rewarded with every bit the same kind of pop without the harsh "wall" of water effect on your body.
Old     (lcky275)      Join Date: Jul 2002       08-03-2006, 7:28 AM Reply
Zack,

I'd have to say that the ease of how a wake throws you is the basis for how most, not all, people judge wakes nowadays. And that can kill your technique, I'm a true testament to that. I'm going back and re-learning the basics, because I really didn't take the time to learn, or actually know any better. It's stupid, but I can do inverts better than I can got w2w. I know if I get the basics down again, my overall riding will improve.

Jeff, thanks for the clarification.

Stupid alcohol is killing my understanding ability Ed!

Honestly I have no regrets at all about trading up to the new X2.....the boats are almost not comparible. The new X2 feels so much bigger on the inside and has SO much more storage then the X1 which isn't always a big deal but is nice when you're rolling with 5-6 people + gear on a day trip. We've rolled 9-10 people on the new boat without being cramped which would have never worked on the X1.

The new ballast pumps are a huge plus over the old boat, although the "neato" MC ballast gauges on the new one aren't worth a crap. That won't matter much when I get the rear sacks plumbed in.

The picklefork look has caused a lot of conversation and argument but I love it. You can comfortably fit 3 girls or 2 guys without being cramped + my 600 sack fits in the floor instead of having to lay it across the front seat like on my X1.

The new bimini is in a different league then my old one......no straps to mess with which is awesome. It folds/unfolds easily with one person.

About the only negatives I've discovered so far are the fact it comes from the MC factory with a 13x17 prop which, even with the MCX wont get it on plane easily fully loaded and EATS gas. Not a biggy. The other negative being that in order to make the cockpit bigger MC moved the back seat towards the stern so the rear compartments aren't as big and I can't store anything bigger then a skate in there now.

Honestly I wouldn't think twice about buying the same boat again - I like it that much.

Looks to me like BCP had a little wakesurfing going on in that picture. Completely different than the pictures of the guys in the MB. 7mph and sitting on the sunpad with 6 people in the boat vs. 30+ mph, 14+ people in the boat with guys standing on the side, holding on to the tower while power turning. There really is no comparison Bocephus.

BCP- that boat looks better and better every time you post a picture...

Thanks Rich, as you can see the cars are pretty small over here compared with the US. It's a Mastercraft UK standard trailer and the "bumper" is a trailer board for lights and car registration plate.

Just playin with some colors Ryan... our X1 is here to stay .

When your in design a boat, push the 'print screen' button on your keyboard. (It is in the upper right area of my laptop) Then while in a program such as photoshop or paint, simply click edit 'paste', and the page you printscreened will appear. Then just crop it to show what you want and save the photo file, maybe resizing as necessary for Wakeworld.
