Digital Camera Preferences

I am looking to upgrade to a decent Digital SLR camera to take wakesurf photos.

Can some of the posters on this site give me a recommendation regarding Brand and Model and also lens or zoom combinations that work?

It seems like my little point and shoot digital Nikon Coolpix 4500 can't get closeups of wakesurfers very well.

I probably would still use mostly the basic features.

Wealth of knowledge at this site, though I found many of them to be pretty condecending to those with less knowledge.

Canon 20D with a good canon lens is all you may ever need.

we get great results with a cannon rebel and a 300mm lens
