Guy I have an 08 VLX and on the rear compartments the screws that hold the gas shock mounts in place to the hatch have pulled out of their original hole. In other words the hole has been stripped out. Any ideas on possible fix.

Thanks

make a plate out of metal, 3"x3" drill holes in all sides, you can probably fit three holes per side. Mount that to the trunks, mount the gas shock mount to that. We've done this, and seems to hold better

There are some threads about that kind of thing on the bucrew forums. Some guys have welded larger base plates to the mounts to distribute the load better. For a quick fix you can either move the mounts slightly to make new screw holes or put larger screws into the old holes.

^^good idea. I put 2 1' pieces of solid birch resined and then mounted to that, this way the tension is distributed over a bigger area.
