Active Fuel Management - Non-Wakeboarding Discussion

Any one have a new GM truck with Active Fuel Management? can you feel it kick in and out?
Tossing the idea around about getting a new truck.

If your referiing to where the engine switches between 4/8 cylinders automatically, ( like on my tahoe) No you can't feel it at all, only way you can tell is the dash computer.

I have it on my 2008 silverado. you can't tell at all when it switches. very smooth.

Going to look at a couple newer trucks this coming week. See how it all pans out.

Still up in the air with what to do with my Tahoe. Hate to sell it but I need a truck.

You will know when it kicks down to 4 only because 4 cylinders is quieter than 8. When you're crusing on the freeway you will notice but only at first when you're looking for it to happen. 09 Silverado

I don't know how often it will be kicking down to four cylinders as I am going to lift it on 35's

It seems that it only goes down on 4 cylinders when you're gas is off the pedal, which isnt very much. I have an 08 silverado.

Charles- You just changed the entire way to look at things. When you lift it on 35's you will NEVER kick down to 4 cylinders again unless you reprogram the computer to adjust for the new tire diameter. The truck will never think you're at cruising speed to shut down to 4 since your wheels are going to be bigger. I put bigger wheels on my truck also and it hasn't kicked down to 4 once since doing that.

Matt- I think it's more for your cruise control type situations. Mine would kick back up to 8 whenever you gave it more gas on the freeway but if you put cruise control on at 70mph it will kick down and stay there.

Don't bother finding one with active fuel mgmt if you're putting big tires on in. Waste of money, find a low mile one without that "option."

I was looking for one with the 6.2 but have not came across any with low miles and a fair price. Not really worried about getting great MPG as my Tahoe is a pig now. Just wanting a truck again. Love the Tahoe, just want to able to toss whatever in back. also makes it nice during deer season. No need for a trailer.
