Have any of you taken the speakers out of their cans to find lots of corrosion? How do you prevent this?

It is hard to prevent in a marine environment, best thing to do is only buy speakers made for the marine environment with a composite basket. After seeing the ones that came out of my interior a couple of years ago I would never put a speaker with a basket that is stamped out of sheet metal in my boat again, it is just a matter of time, carbon steel with corrode.

Steel from a speaker basket leaves reddish-brown rust while aluminum oxidation leaves a white residue. Import pods use low grade aluminum that corrode easily and quickly plus the import pod's return/face where the speakers mount may have an indentation all the way around that makes sealing the speaker more difficult. Use a rubber gasket in this case. If you are in a coastal area then use a speaker that has a solid midbass dustcap and use a true marine speaker with a composite basket. Make sure that all entry points for water, such as collar bolts and wire terminals, are sealed.
Don't pressure wash.
