Arkansas riding

Anyone still riding in Arkansas this time of year and when are you going to hang it up? I'm going out this weekend, but I'm afraid there's not going to be too many weekends left?

Went last weekend in a thin wetsuit and was more than fine. Friend went with a heater top and didn't complain. Bull Shoals lake around the missouri/arkansas line. Boat said ~70 water but I don't think it was quite that warm.

We plan on going until our desire to ride is not as strong as our desire to handle the cold.

Thank you Logan. Wind aside (which roughed up about as much of the lake as we could scout except for a barely protected stretch on a small creek arm), it was nice riding. No doubt, the cooling water and air temps (as well as the dazzling sun light sparkling to blinding levels off the wake) cause adjustments. Like, avoiding falls ... practicing switch more ... and otherwise taking it easy because evidently one doesn't find that (or, it's "I" that does not find that) colder air and water make the 'tiny sack' problem tinier, but larger.

Come on guys, be men! You live in AR, you should be riding year round! My parents live in Maumelle and I ride anytime I'm in town, unless it is actively snowing (and that's rare). Anyone going out the week before Christmas?

The water here is near 50 now and I think I'll be riding until it hits 40.

As long as the sun is shining at Greers Ferry Lake the air temp has been 75 and the last time I was in the water was 2 weeks ago and I trunked it with no problem. I don't know about year round here but it is doable through Thanksgiving I would think.

I must be a really big Pu$$y I ride on Beaver Lake in NW Arkansas and dude that $h|t is waaaaay too cold for my A$$ even in my wet suit

Went last weekend in a shorty in Conway. May go this weekend if not too windy. I usually winterize around Halloween so the season is coming to a close, but that means we will start cranking dirt bikes and slinging mud on MX tracks.

We BMX it and the skate and bike parks around here when it's too cold to ride. There's a lake about 30 minutes from my house in Gentry that is warm year round it's a cooling lake for a big power plant and I always seem to forget about it . . . . Well now I know what I'm doing this weekend :-)

Well the rail is still there. I believe they are doing it next year as well. All we need is 5 guys and a trailer we can take it where ever we want.

yea, or inspired by a hill ^ ? the nuance in the name, if true, is amusing. just as some languages have more names for types of snow than others, french possibly has more names for types of hills.

hey brian, you might like lake taneycomo. it's really protected so it's always glass, it has practically no boat traffic (it's the closest water to my house but i never ride it, nor anybody else i've ever seen), and it's trout water.

it's 56 year round and, at least around here, that seems to be enough to dissuade skiers, tubers, boarders, you name it.

but man brian, that just might be your type of water.

That's awesome! Do they allow wake on Tanycomo? Sounds interesting. Now, I just have to haul my boat 800 miles south to get to Arkansas :-) Sadly Lake Maumelle is no wake :-( My partents just moved to river front property and they are surrounded by glassy water. Y'all don't know how lucky you are, everyone in wisconsin owns a boat, and even though we have 17k lakes, the ones around here are almost always crowded :-(

Don't know. Out of curiosity, I searched for regulations about Taneycomo, and found a ton of them, but all relating to trout. But don't know why not. The lake sees power boat races from time to time.

Taneycomo is just so overlooked, it's hard to explain. It's cold. Time has forgot it (or, at least since its bootlegging heyday during prohibition, it even drew a visit from Al Capone). The place to launch and ride would be out of Ozark Beach, but there's nothing except (in consideration me towing my boat on its double axle trailer) exceptionally bad roads to get there. Sure there are a lot of bad roads, and I tow over a lot of them, but the ones to Ozark Beach would be just a kill-joy on the day.

There've been times when, on an otherwise nice day except, Bull Shoals or Table Rock were blown out, that someone would joke, 'We should have gone to Taneycomo.'

And then, wouldn't the three or four months of the year it be warmer than the other lakes be dry-suit weather?

To my thinking, it's appeal and value is fishing. Here's example stuff you hear about Taneycomo.

"Consider these trout tantalizers:
--In 2001 during their annual late-summer sampling, Missouri Department of Conservation biologists found a brown trout that was 36.5 inches long, had a girth of 28.5 inches and weighed approximately 37 pounds. This would have easily surpassed the current state record of 26 pounds, 13 ounces."
--In 1997, a dead brown trout weighing 37.1 pounds was found floating in Lake Taneycomo. The carcass measured 41.75 inches in length, which was longer than the 40.25-inch length of the current world-record brown trout.

I was skating in this ditch the other week, and didn't ollie high enough to clear a Giant rock. I was absolutly worked, but the Zarial only had a couple of scratches after taking this mini boulder head on.
