after many requests, and a big "come-up" I think im gonna try to do a wall ride at spanky's in sac.

For ya'll that have hit/built them...any suggestions on angle, width, length? max length I can do it bout 60' long.

Only one I have hit is the one at OWC that ones pretty fun but it needs to be taller. Look at the flex video http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/1/678685.html?1237227138
and u can see it

another good question is what side of the pool should it be?

I'd say left side of the pool for reg-footed riders.

ok...im thinking having the wall 6 feet tall, so about 8.5' of sliding surface at a 45 degree angle.

Day-um, it kinda needs to be in the middle of the pool in case(or more like 'when') someone goes over the top.

i'd say left side also but if ur gonna put it in the middle of the pool maybe you could make a pyramid almost so that way you could hit it from both sides like a v-wall if that makes sense.

to begin with, the pool bottom is slippery, and we have no way to attach things to the bottom of the pool.

That said I need to have some way to make sure the wall ride doiesnt move around. I thinking about doing this:
Upload
The 2x4's to the pool's edge can "hold" it in place so the force of the riders hitting it wont let it "walk" around the pool.

any other ideas?

i didnt mention that I want to keep the 20 foot distance between the wall ride and side of pool so IF a rider goes over they dont land on the concrete (hence the 2x4's only being near the middle of the wall ride and not at the ends).

the top half of the drawing is a view from the end of the wall ride, and the bottom half is a plan view (from above).

Once people start really pressing it to the top of the wall I would imagine that thing may get kind of top heavy and tip over without weighting it on the inside support beam. I would also bring a bunch of fun-oodles to pad the supports with that way if someone does go over the wall they dont take a 2x4 to the chest without any padding.

how much of the pool would that take up? would there still be room for two other rails?
Old     (wakeviolater)      Join Date: Sep 2004       03-16-2009, 2:57 PM Reply
m-dizzle, good thinking. maybe I can put a couple of phat sacs on platforms in the wall ride, above the water line, to "push" the whole thing down.

Mitch, I think we could do this and 2 or 3 other rails. things would just be a little closer.

Hey Al, let me know what you want drawn up, I have a semi CAD program and I can give you a really good idea of what it will look like.....

Here's a sample that took me 10 minutes...I guessed on the dimensions.

I assumed the pool is 164ft long (50m) by 25yds wide. The Wall ride is 60ft long, directly in the center of the pool. Its a 9 ft surface, and 6 ft high which means a 48.189 degree angle from the top, or a 41.811 from the bottom corner.

I know you always get a line and run it to the lane line hooks to keep other rails from sliding right? why not just do that to keep it from sliding, use supports on the bottom to keep it from bobbing or tipping, and use the horizontal supports to keep it in the middle of the pool.

You could also put the 2x4's wedged into the pool gutters (or the side of the pool) and just use rope and tie downs to run it straight to the side of the pool.

that looks good AJ. after m-dizzle's idea I think Im gonna try to just weight-the-f*ck outta the structure with phat sacs instead of doing supports to the side of the pool. I think (4) 750 pound phat sacs in stratigic places will hold the rail in place. We'll never know until we try!!

let me "refine" my drawings and give you better dimentions and show more of the supports.

unfortunatley the pool slants towards the deep end at a constant rate so the deep end of the structure needs to be taller that the shallow end, and I dont know the angle of decline.

wakeviolater wall rides proly next easiest thing to a box at 45 degree but weve been out winching and doing vert wall rides on backstops with a little booter up to it. my suggestion would be edge hard olie and land at the angle of the box

45 is steep...make it mello so you can get creative on it...

this is just my opinion but the more mellow ALL of the hits are the more likely people are going to get creative on them...

i'm also diggin the pyramid idea...or a 2 sided fun box...the only problem with having it on one side or the other is that some people might be intimidated to hit is switch..unless you're going to have the actual sliding surface start at the water...then its a mute point.

the other thing about a pyramid shape is that it will take twice as long to build and cost twice as much in material...i like the idea, but i gotta see how much the one sided wall ride is first.

if you're using hdpe then it's gonna be a grip...

maybe i can just pass it along to the riders...how bout bumping the entry fee from $35 to $80?

Two suggestions, Put the braces running to the edge of the pool under water. 6 feet should be enough water to fall into.

Or put a ledge and wall at the top of the wall ride.

make it like this, but mellower. It still allows you to do a lip slide with only the tail of the board on the wall, but if you go over there is something of a barrier.

just kidding...i can not do the double sided thing...i would love too, but $$$ and man power needs are too great for that.

randal, i was thinking about the "stop" thing you show. I need to think more about it still...

I like Randal Browns suggestion. Hopefully we will have a ton of pvc sheeting for the wall ride pretty soon, thanks Callen. We still have to make sure riders woun't go over the top and fall out of the pool. Anyone have pads/barriers we could line pool deck next to wall ride? If we set this up a few feet from one side of the pool maybe there will be enough room to go over and ride away?

I dont know about anyone else but... if you put a top on it like Randal's drawing I would be all about trying to transfer. haha.

give the top barrier a angle as well.. you could wall ride to gap to wall ride.
