Here are the pics I have so far of the 2008 Tomcat build...

All hand taped... process took 3 guys 3 hours to do.

Upload

Adding the gel... this process took 36 man hours on this boat. pretty crazy.
Upload

The Fiberglass guys work b*lls to the wall man. 5 guys worked 12 hours straight and I barely saw them stop for a second. If you think you have a hard job, i'd recommend watching these dudes for 1 day.

not trying to talk smack, but do those prongs on the front serve any other purpose besides making it necessary to have a good foot plus of extra depth available in your garage?

Maybe some folks like that look, but it sure does seem impractical.

Looks great Ian! Have fun with it.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they add a little boyancy to the front if the nose is about to get stuffed. ??

Probably mostly just a style thing since the bow is wider than most boats.

Does anyone know anything about slalom skiing behind one of these things? My dad won't get a boat unless he can do that behind the boat... Would just need to be able to recreationally ride behind it... but still... Cause I may try to get him to look at these if they're vaguely decent at 30+ for that...

Nick, i sent you an email. contact Alan S at SouthernSkiboats.com. My understanding is that the B52V throws a very nice ski wake at 30+. Plus, he's got some insane boat show deals right now and a new 2008 B52V with the new tower on it that looks very nice.

Oh, and I think the purpose of the longer forks is to trap air under the bow so that the boat planes faster and rides smoother. It definitely dates back to Mike's racing days. Now, i'm no engineer but it probably has some cosmetic reasoning as well.

It is very difficult to dunk the bow on a Tomcat. It only happened once last year on our Tomcat with 80 hrs.

We were on the tomcat for a demo, there was a lot of people in the bow and it didn't come close to going under.

The one time Alan was talking about I'm pretty sure was a combination of a huge double up from the tomcat and us picking up a fallen rider in a b-52.

We would be happy to test out the slalom ski potential of Our MB this season. We will do a full write up for everyone.

Are you doing an aftermarket tower?

Just take it through the narrows at powell at about 1 PM, that will do it for sure...

"Oh, and I think the purpose of the longer forks is to trap air under the bow so that the boat planes faster and rides smoother."

At twenty five miles an hour?

I don't lean one way our the other on the pickle fork debate, but using that type of logic is crazy talk Mr.

hmm, could have sworn that is what I remembered reading somewhere. Like I said, i'm no engineer, just rehashing the info (albeit possibly incorrectly) Hey, but it is a forum, 50% of what you read online is most likely bs anyway :-) :-) :-)

Ian-That boat is hot bro...should get lots of attention at the MWM events that you can make it too. Been awhile since we've had a new MB around these parts...Can't wait to session it.

NAW, it will be at the demo event in May. I'll give pulls all day long. HOpe to have the new 21 footer at the boot camp in August to demo there as well.

Nice! You'll love the ZR6. Are you going with Tidal Audio for the tower speakers?
Got any more spy photos of the 21 foot Tomcat or B52's with the picklefork?
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       03-12-2008, 8:36 AM Reply
No more spy shots. Sorry.
For tower speakers Duane from NVS hooked me up with a pair of Tyrants and a Zapco Reference 1000.4 amp.

Here is the update from last night on pics. Not much of a visible change though.

What is the purpose of the pair of legs. Is that incase you get tired riding and need new legs? Did MB throw those in as a bonus? The rest looks sweet

You are gonna love that boat! I have been in one several times and the wake is awesome and that thing is so stable going over rollers! The forks keep water from coming over the bow. We actually tried to bury one and couldn't do it. Good Luck!

Kevin- HAHA, took me a minute!

Ian- Tomcat is looking sweet. Congrats, keep us updated. You're gonna love that boat.

I like the look of the boat, but is there an option for a different tower?

Ian, Congrats and enjoy. Color combo looks great.

yeah, I never seen a pair of legs installed in a boat like that. They're usually mounted on the transom.

people get really freaked out when they see the torso installed in the glove box.

Looks like a boat now when do you get it

hopefully soon. The boat is was finished today, but it was still in the shop so the pics I got were pretty much the same as yesterday. The NVS system is getting installed on Monday so I'm hoping to have full side, front, interior, etc pics on Monday night. Hope to get the boat here by the first of April! I'm waiting for my shipper www.osborneinboardtransport.com to go out to CA so he can backhaul it to me in IA. Kyle is a great guy btw, if you need a boat shipped, he's the man.

Enjoy the new ride, very classy color combo. Looks nice.

Ian, is that a Piping Delete boat?
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       03-14-2008, 8:49 AM Reply
yeah, i didn't do the colored piping vertically but only on the flat surfaces. I prefer a more conservative look :-) I really like the red/white B52V you guys have with the all white interior. For my next one, i might do something similar.

Does the floor on the cockpit go over the lips on the deck/interior piece?

or is this photo from a incomplete assembly?

I think you need to bring it by the shop and do some crazy tunes in that thing

Hey Chas, I already have NVS Tyrants going in it. I also live in Iowa so that makes it a little tougher :-) The install on that is supposed to happen Monday.

Good call on the piping. I like the conservative with a shade of gnarly look. The Tomcat is so far from other designs in terms of feel and looks. Having been in a couple, I can't compare it to another boat.
I do wish they would come up with a different bimini design. A Z-cargo (sp) style would look sick!
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       03-14-2008, 12:36 PM Reply
a Z5 would be nice. when the boat gets here I'm going to take off the canvas on the bimini and send it over to John at towerbiminis.com and have him make me one that is blue with white swooshes to match the boat. Should look pretty cool (i hope)
