thermostat???

my thermostat went in my mastercraft (351 indmar) and i was wondering if i could get one at an auto parts store. my motor always ran super cool between 120 and 140, so im pretty sure it use to open at 143, discount imboard marine sells this, but i cant wait, would it hurt not having one at all?

I don't know about your boat , but in my boat the t'stat is very critical. too hot and the engine diesels and too cool it runs slugish.

Your boat should be fine without as a tempoary measure as it has a carb. EFI boats are pretty picky as to what temp they run at though.

Get it replaced as soon as possible though as you'll be using more fuel than you need to.

dont do an car one! it will rust and give you lots of problems. when there in cars they have coolant so keep them from rusting, in boats they make them out of stainless steel so they wont rust aka wont rust and give you problems
