CA New Hogan Lake - good

Looking for opinions on this lake, might be headed their for the upcoming holiday weekend??

Cali,

We will be up @ Hogans this weekend as well with multiple sites. I 100% agree Pedro or Melones is much better for ridding / lake size but AM & PM can be good @ Hogans.

The good thing about Hogans is that most of the sites are close / on the water & you are able leave your boat in the water overnight & not forced to pull it out ( i.e. McClure ). It is a smaller lake & can get blown out at times in the summer.

They are sold out this weekend but boat in is still available on a first come first serve basis. Boat in sites / Deer Flat have fire rings & picnic tables. They also have a large day use area that is free.

In the upper end of the lake their is a hangout spot / cliffs to jump off / etc. Hope that helps.

I'd take Hogans over Melones any day. Good water at Melones will be nearly impossible. There's one good inlet to ride and 20 boats will be out there at the crack of dawn for it.

I gave up on Melones years ago.

u may want to give it another chance, ive only had good experiences there. I just feel Hogans is to small.

its going to rain out there anyone cancelling there trip. I cancelled my melones trip. Says rain all weekend. NO FUN LOL. my site will sit there unused.
