....and i may have found my next bindings! they were so comfy. also, i put my feet in them without lube or even getting the bindings wet, thanks to the hinge tech, the heel piece opened up the binding to easily put my foot in. the hinge tech is definitely a technology that will be copied by other companies.

oh, and when i got home from the tourney, this was sittin' on my porch!

Sounds like something to look into. Oh ya nice board. CWB makes some good stuff. I have been having fun on the transend can't wait to get it in plat.

from what the cwb guys told me, the transcend platinum will be a bit faster for '06. from what i saw today, it looks like all they did was change the bottom w/ a smoother material for a faster ride.

Awesome. Knowning the bindings are up to Joe's standards gives me faith in the new line.

I am still riding all 04 CWB stuff so it's definitely time for an upgrade. I'm counting on the 06 Zeus + Trancsend or Absolute. I'm supposed to see everything this week I think.

So what's the report on the new boards. How do they ride?
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       08-14-2005, 4:06 PM Reply
bill, in antbug's pics, pics 1 & 2 show the hinge in the open position. when in this position, you can pull the heel piece back to get your foot in the binding (pics 5 & 7). once your foot is in, put the heel piece back and lock it in by pulling the hinge lock up in its lock position (pics 4 & 6). tighten laces, and you're off to ride!

jrod, hopefully, i can check out the '06 absolute and transcend soon, and i'll be able to give you a report.

oh, btw, the new handles are gonna be siiiiiiick! i have yet to find a handle to replace my hardline dhs handle (which doesn't need to be replaced since it's still in awesome condition)...up until i got to check out proline's prototype suede handles!

antbug, did you get pics of the handles in all sizes?

Joe, thats what I have also heard that the transend will be faster. Looking forward to that and the new bindings.

Uh Oh. Somebody got Squid going again. He will have a new board in a week, and he has only ridden the one he currently has twice.

JOe

i hope it doesnt hold it too well in the heel area ,from what your describing the pain would be imense if you get ejected just hard enough for the foot to come up into the ankle area but not release..could be dangerous if it doesnt release..like four years ago when i wore the old concrete combat style high lace ups ,man it hurt on ejections..

maybe im picturing it wrong or at least i hope..

Has anyone seen the Factor (formerly the Tattoo)?

joe, do the zues have the same foot bed and width like the 04's?

Pierce the Factor was there & I bet Ant Bug has a picture of it. Everyone was really stoked on all the new gear, I heard even GB team & Gator himself came & checked it out. The Hinge tech is absolutely awesome. Everyone who tries it sees that it works and that it is a viable tool and they flip(like Joe). The Absolute for this year is awesome, the shape is a little more aggressive, unfortunately the 135 wasn't there so I didn't get to try it out but man that board is ridiculously thin and so light. CWB has really stepped it up this year. Look for it in stores in 3-4 weeks, maybe sooner.

PS- Ant Bug, that one person was on the Backwater.

I was looking at getting some new transits but CWB just threw a big ol monkey wrench in my binding plans for next year. I'll definately give the Zues a demo. Bonus - they match my 3DS DNA perfectly.
Old     (thane_dogg)      Join Date: Jun 2002       08-15-2005, 11:16 AM Reply
I tried on the '06 Zeus bindings and they are all good. I'm not ready to give up my transits just yet, but when I do that's what I'll be riding. I'm much more excited about the CWB foot pad, then the hinge deal. The footpad seems like it's greatly improved, and CWB is using the lycra material on the toe rubber, and regular rubber on the heel.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the review. I was set to pull the trigger on the 05's (deal), but a friend convinced me to wait for 06's. Bill brought up a good point on the ejection factor. Did you get ejected while you were riding the bindings? If not, would you mind re-testing and getting yourself ejected so we have first hand pain threshold testimony?
Thanks,
Dave

I was on the 06 Zues this morning for final product testing and you do eject! Trying my crowmobe is not the best on your bindings. Good Gear! The new A1 EVA handle rocks too. Oh a great thing about the hinge on the high end boot is not so much the fact you can get in easy. That is cool but what realy rocks is the fact that you can pop the leaver while waiting for the boat to come back and pick you up! This keeps your feet fresh and the blood flowing!

Billy - CM and I were messing around with the Zeus tonight, and came to the conclusion that you should be able to "set it and forget it". The only thing you will probably need is a little lube to drop your foot in, which I am sure you have to use already for your Byerlys. You are gonna love this shiz & CM can't wait to get you in a pair.

For the rest of us, no lube is needed - got my fat foot in with no lube & dry tonight.

Not at all, but I do find it ironic how long it has taken for them to catch up. They look very nice. Much as I like my transits, these look like they would be easier to use. I do wonder though if you were ejected, does that metal lever pose a threat? Kinda like the cutouts on my Byerly...functional and hazardous all at the same time.

Yes they are, you ever try to open an imported beer without one?
Old    chavezychavez            08-16-2005, 9:05 AM Reply
Eric - much testing has been done, and no problems with the lever have been reported. The lever is completely out of the way when you are locked in.

Also, it is no secret that Flow inspired the Hinge. I agree - it has taken a long time for wake to catch up!!!

I know it's been done. It just hasn't been done in a long while. Schmaltz used to do them too. With these you can do it legitimately and get your foot back in the binding. Shawn the leather handle is around and you should probably be able to get one from SoCal watersports pretty soon. Week or two if they don't already have them. The thing looked pretty sweet too and felt incredible. Proline has some awesome handles this year...finally.

Thanks for posting those Chavez. Have any pictures of the backside of the Factor? The Zeus look very nice.

Is the sapphire a womens board? What other sizes does it come in?

Had to leave something to the imagination, so we didn't take all the tops & bottoms.

The Sapphire is a Women's equivalent (build process) to the Men's pro models. The pictured size is a 134, and I am not sure if they are going to run some smaller versions or not.

Ok I think I have decided I am definitely going to hang up the Liquid Force gear!!!! I am going to get a CWB Marius w/ Zues bindings. Of course if I wanted to save a little loot I might go the Marius with the new Fuse bindings. they look pretty solid.....however, the whole easy entry system is what is helping me decide the switch! Plus I need something that lands softer than the Omega. I need super plush landings.

Trevor Hansen will be riding the Fuse bindings this year. The Deuce is going to be similar to this years Boss with a little more forward lean. If you look closely at the cut of the overlays you can see how they will be super flexible yet have awesome hold down. I'm torn between the Deuce's flexibility/tweakability and the fact that the darn Zeus is freaking awesome.
Old     (antbug)      Join Date: Jul 2004       08-16-2005, 1:55 PM Reply
Big Heavy ~ At the X-games Trevor told me he will be riding the Fuse or the Deuce. Both bindings are SICK! The Zeus are going to be the binding of the year though.

so i'm wondering...

shouldn't cwb make the zeus w/ lycra toe AND heel pieces?
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       08-22-2005, 2:20 PM Reply
The current Boss will be around with no changes. no joe I dn't think they should. The eva is a little tackier and keeps your foot gripped better IMO. Hey where's that disk? I did email you...
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       08-22-2005, 2:32 PM Reply
i don't think gripping will be an issue as long as you've got the bindings cinched down and the hinge closed. my current bindings are the '05 liquid force teams. the lycra adds comfort and doesn't take away from the support. it also makes for getting in & out of the bindings that much easier. after all, if lycra lessened took away from support, then cwb wouldn't have made the torqs w/ lycra on both toe and heel pieces.

don't get me wrong, i'm looking forward to checkin' out the zeus.

your cd will be in the mail this week. ;)

Billy rode the Torq bindings yesterday and I had a chance to try them on. Man, when you flip the back up, those things really lock your heel down. I think it freaked Billy out a little at first. He was scared of not coming out on a big crash. I loved the way they felt but the XL was a little big for me. The footbeds are super comfortable, and the hinge system seems to work perfectly. Billy rode them all day with no complaints. He said that because of the heel being locked in, the board felt a lot more responsive edge to edge. I slipped my foot in with no lube. Perfect for my jacked ankle.

Am I the only one that wants a good look at the bottom of the new Absolute????? I like the '05, but think it needs to be faster and track better on edge. I'm hoping for some channels on the rails like the '04 Absolute (not sure if that's correct terminology?). It kinda looks like thats exactly what they did from the pics, but I haven't seen any really good ones yet. If they don't make a change I think I'll be going Flame this year. I just want a board with a bit more juice to the wake.
