I have been wakesurfing all winter at 9.8 mph and it has been ok but not the wake I was expecting. What speed makes the best wake assuming I have all the ballasts and a few fat sacks filled?

What boat, how much weight etc...?

There is a range of speeds you should go at, and it depends on variables like the ones Duffy is asking. Most often, I've found myself around 10.8-11.1 most often. On my old boat, I had to stay pretty close to 10.7 as more speed dropped the wave down quickly.

You really have to play around with it, but you'd probably be safe looking in the range of 10.8-11.5, with better odds of finding the sweet spot on the lower end of that range. If you've been surfing at 9.8, I'm assuming you're probably running with less than 1000lbs above the stock ballast? Usually the less weight you have, the slower you can go.

I agree with Duffy, more info needed
I find that we are changing speeds with the weight in the boat, but it generally varies between 10.5 - 11.2

We run around 12, but that's with a large crew and lots of weight. The faster the wave the higher the airs etc....

How do you have it setup? I would say below 11 with that weight. If you get up to 2k then 12.5 or so.

Every boat is different on what speed it runs at. It also depends on how much weight you run. Alot of people think there is 1 magic speed for wakesurfing. If you get your boat dialed in and always run the same weight and amount of people you can find a set speed. But if you go out one time with 1000#'s of ballast and 5 people in the boat and then the next time you have 700#'s of ballast and only 2 people the speed will be different. when you go out set your boat up and then work with the speed untill you are happy.

Well said drew. My thought is more weight= more speed. When are you going to install avalanche sacs? They rock!
