Does anyone have ant tricks for removing rust of my traile rims? I have gotten 3 different types of rust remover products and havent had much luck with brushing it. Any tricks that will help the products work once rust has built up?

how bad is it? Buy a new rim. way less time, and once it's all said and done proabbly the same cost. Most trailer rims are fairly cheap.

It's not completely bad but it's getting there and I want to tackle it before it does get worse. Good point on just replacing it. I'll try the brillo pad and see how much it helps, if not just leave it and deal with it.

steel wool

I second that. Works wonders, but get a fairly fine steelwoll, or you risk tiny scratches. Also, wax the wheels afterwards to give them some protection from the elements.

They showed that on Myth Busters and yes it did work.
An SOS pad works great. New wheels are like $35-40 bucks each for a chrome mod wheel at Discount Tire/Americas Tire.

Rust-Mort

You can pick it up at automotive paint supply stores for about $10-$15. It chemically changes the rust into a steel like material that will not rust. For it to work, you want to lightly wire brush the rust to knock off the flakes. There has to be rust present for Rust-Mort to activate. I've used it for restoring cars, it works awesome.

Thanks all for the feedback. Will try each one as I get the supplies. Now what about removing the rust from the trailer?

Naval Jelly (not the stuff out of your belly button). Home Depot, Lowe's, car parts stores all carry it.

I would consider the buying of new rims. I bought a basic chrome directional rim for $40 a couple of years ago for a trailer spare.
