I have been trying to determine the engine size too. The owners manual mentions a 350 (not a 351) but the original sales brochure mentions a 351 and not a 350.
First, does that make a big difference in HP? What is it for either of them?
Second, I'll upload a picture of the engine in case that helps.

I would bet it's 270 HP- It doesn't look to be fuel injected- but if so, that could raise the HP slightly. Either way, it's a good amount for a light boat.

That is a Ford engine. ( the distributor in the front. the Gm distibutor will be in the back.
The didnt start putting in fuel injection until 1994
I have a GT-40 351 it has 285 horses.
The standard Ford had 275 HP
You can call Mastercraft with the Vin and get the details.

Thanks Mike. Is the Ford engine the 350 or 351?
Thanks Will. It is not fuel injected.

Bill,

Had the same the same boat/engine combination. Mike is right on the hp - and the boat has plenty of power. In fact, that boat is a blast to drive, turns on a dime. Only drawback, it's a really harsh ride on rough water.

I have the same year Tri Star 190. It's a Ford 351 and I'm pretty sure it's rated at 275 hp like stated above.

Ford makes the 351
and chevrolet makes the 350
Mastercraft did not install fuel injection until 1994 so I would say it is not fuel injected.

Standard HP for the Ford 351 PCM is 260hp. I could be wrong, but I think they offered an upgrade to 285hp? I have a standard FORD 351 PCM engine (carborated) and it is 260hp.

351 is Ford. They made 2 versions of that motor, the Windsor and the Cleveland. The Cleveland is 285 and the Windsor is a little less. 350 is Chevys version of the 351. Here is a pic of my 92 351 Cleveland. Either one you have is plenty of H.P.!
